Island Update Ending July 9, 2006

A beautiful day to start the week out. We picked up around the house and relaxed some before Aunt Jeanne, Uncle Dick and Glen arrived on the 1315 boat from Portland. There were lots of cars waiting so this was an extra run during what would normally be their break. We all had lunch on the porch after which Dad gave Uncle Dick and Glen a tour of the island. Mom, Aunt Jeanne, Paul and Casey played Liverpool this PM and Casey got all zeroes which none of us have ever seen before. You can bet everyone has been giving him a hard time. After supper it was Tripoli and then off to bed.

It is Tuesday so happy 4th of July! We had very light showers and fog ranging from heavy and no Portland to light and a fuzzy Portland and no sun. By nightfall it had cleared up and we had delightful fireworks. One never knows. It was also in the 60's all day long. There was a clamshell race this morning which everyone here (we do have a full Inn) gathered on the back porch to cheer them on. Dad kind of missed out because he chose to continue cooking breakfast. Later this afternoon we had a parade of decorated vehicles around the island. It included a fire truck and the police car. It did turn out to be a very fun day.

Wednesday we just sort of hung out. Paul finished installing our new computer (Mac Mini) and putting the various pieces of the old PC away. He did discover it was missing a program, or whatever, that would have prevented us from hooking up to the DSL Both Mom and Dad had an instruction period to bring us up to speed on this new system. Paul and Aunt Jeanne had lobster for supper while the rest of us had pizza and vegetarian stuff. Not bad for a meal we had not anticipated for the number of people we had.

Thursday started like yesterday and we just had a miscellaneous breakfast of whatever happened to be around. Everyone departed on the 1045 ferry so after few stops on the way home, Mom and Dad had lunch. Before that we transplanted a few items from next door that they were digging up, Mom, of course, started almost immediately to washing sheets and towels. One bed is made and ready to go again. Dad got drafted/volunteered to help at the blood drive up at the Lions Club. He had a good time doing that. Both fell asleep at various times around supper time, but managed to eventually pull some leftovers together for supper. Busy, but interesting day.

Friday, just as every day this week except the 4th has been beautiful and will continue to be so the rest of the week. Mom was at the laundry again and Dad did a 4 hour tour as docent at the 5th Maine. He had big plans on getting things done up there, but it turned out to be a rather busy day. Dad tried to get some info from his thumb drive file on the new computer. He will try again tomorrow before going to our tech support guy who is somewhere in New York headed ultimately for Fairfax.

Saturday was kind of a strange day. Mom, of course, did tons of laundry. We both went up the 5th Maine this morning to replace lightbulbs. Mom was a bit embarrassed riding in the golf cart with an eight foot ladder tied on back, vertically. We also ran into Diana so she tagged along to help change light bulbs. Dad cut back the bush by the side of the house and spent some time talking with Dong this PM. Diana also showed up with spaghetti sauce and meat balls for our supper so she and Mom hung out on the from porch talking for a while. By the time everyone was gone we had a late lunch. Popcorn at night, spaghetti tomorrow. Dad went up to meet Dong at the 5th to arrange for him to do some work there. Before that happened Dad had to go rescue him down near the ferry where he had run out of gas. HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY - THE CHERRY TREE AT THE END OF THE FRONT PORCH IS GONE! WHAT A WONDERFUL CHANGE, WE CAN SEE DOWN THE BAY AGAIN.

Sunday again and we were off to the 0815 mass per usual followed by our own breakfast. Mom baked cookies to freeze for future use and also to bring to the senior lunch tomorrow. Lots of work there, but in between Mom managed to watch some tennis and soccer. She does enjoy them both. As for Dad he mowed some lawn including around the hedges so sometime his week he will trim them. He didn't get too carried away with mowing because it did get a bit warm this afternoon. Yesterday he sent a message to our tech support and we heard from them this morning. They talked me through all sorts of stuff and in the end the missing information he was after was back. Hopefully he hasn't lost it again.

With that your tired parents are ready for bed. Daylight wakes us up way too early up here.

Love, Mom and Dad
