Yes we have arrived and here we go with another exciting summer on Peaks Island. This all starts on Tuesday when we departed home at 0730 and caught the 1630 ferry to the island. All told we took 7 modes of transportation. Truck to Diane's, van to the airport, JetBlue to Boston, bus to Portland, cab to Casco Bay Lines, ferry to the island and van to home. Dong picked us up at the ferry and his sister sent down Pad Tai for our supper. Beautiful day.
Wednesday - Happy 52nd Anniversary to us. Although sunrise is at about 0500 we didn't wake up until 0800 (guess we were tired) just before Dong arrived to continue shingling the house. We chatted with him for quite awhile before he started working. The house is really looking nice. It rained all day long. Pizza from Hannigan's for supper. Thursday it rained all day long and even Dong didn't come down to the island. We didn't accomplish much, I guess we were still recovering from the trip. We had dinner at the Cockeyed Gull (anniversary dinner) and drove around the island. Really quite an exciting day.
Friday wasn't too bad a day to start with, but deteriorated as the day went on. Dong finished shingling the dining room wall all the way to the roof and we took the ladders and scaffolding down. Now you can see the remarkable change that is taking place. One little place to go, but the phone company has to move the phone line. Mom and Dad went to town, got our parking permit through October, registered the van and golf cart, had our favorite Chinese for lunch, did some shopping at BJ's and caught the 1735 back to the island in a heavy drizzle. We how have at least a little food in the house. Raining tonight.
Saturday was rain most of the day. Mom working on the pantries and the accumulation of stuff in each while Dad just puttered around. During a lull in the rain he did hose off the porches getting very wet in the process. We did see what tried to be a sunset so perhaps there is hope.
Sunday turned out to be a beautiful day. Mass at 1000 with visiting afterwards since this was really our first chance to see anyone since we arrived. Dong was here when we got home with new faucets for the kitchen. He couldn't stand the dripping hot water faucet. So easy to fix, but just never got around to it. He was here most of the day, but he didn't feel like working today. He helped us get all the stuff out on the porches, got the picture window cover put away, moved a few other things around and of course got the golf cart out. He has been a wonderful help to us. After he left to go home, Dad decided to mow the lawn and he almost finished it, but it got to be supper time. As for Mom she worked in the garden and also went up to visit Marge.
And that pretty much finishes our first week here in Maine. Next week promises to be a real busy one.
Love, Mom and Dad
