Monday started early with a check of the computer, breakfast and then laundry for Mom and finish the lawn for Dad. Caught the 1115 boat to do some shopping for needed stuff. Home on the 1630, tired, but we did accomplish some things although not all by any means.
Tuesday was our big day to replenish the food supply that we normally do on the day we arrive by car. Anyway, we caught the 0815 and off we went via BJ's where we got a new TV (27"). Then it was off to the commissary (we skipped the exchange) where we filled 2 big shopping carts. We decided to get as much as we could since we were bringing the car to the island. Lunch at our fish and chips place in Brunswick followed by getting some paint and eventually Dairy Queen for desert. Then it was back to catch the 1630 boat. We did pick up some fresh haddock for supper tomorrow. Getting all this stuff meant we had to haul all up a full flight of stairs into the house. Fortunately Dong stopped by and helped. Its a good thing because there is no way Dad would have gotten the TV into the house. Now we have to get used to using it. Hopefully Stephen will straighten out some of our problems.
The weather has been beautiful so on Wednesday and Thursday we continued to work around the house. Things are looking better, it just takes time - lots of time. Then the telephone company came by and disconnected the phone so Dong could finish shingling where the phone wire connects. They decided to run the phone in where the power comes in at the back of the house so getting the phone disconnected, shingling done and phone reconnected became a none issue. Dong came back late to finish the spot and then caught the 2045 boat home. He puts in a long day.
Still a beautiful day on Friday. Dong came by first thing to clean up his things because company is coming tomorrow. Even though he still has come shingling to do there was no way he was going to leave a mess around the house. The house if finally getting back into shape. It takes up about 2 weeks to get settled in.
Saturday was a big day at the 5th Maine. It marked the return of the original Regimental Flag which has now been preserved in a huge case and is now on display in the hall. There were various presentations and displays by reenactors and refreshments and in general a good time was had by all. Stephen, Sarah and Patrick arrived on the 2230 boat and of course you know we stayed up very late chatting with them.
Sunday, of course, was mass at 1000 followed by Dad's usual breakfast and in general just hanging out the rest of the day. We were all a bit on the tired side. Stephen and Dad did fix the pillar on the porch so we could put up the hammock. We also put on the golf cart wheel I got fixed a couple years ago. The crew thought the old smooth and cracked tire off the old golf cart was going flat. More weeding in the garden was also accomplished. And with that followed by supper and probably some card playing in the evening the week has come to a rather satisfying conclusion.
Love, Mom and Dad
Adendum:
Election day was Tuesday and the island voted 58% in favor of session. That is not a very big majority and since this island never gets together on anything I have my doubts that succession will get approved by the legislature even after the island goes through all the wickets.
