Island Update Ending August 12, 2007

Yes, you don't have to tell me this is the 3rd week in a row being late.

Monday Mom and Dad were up bright and early to start the coffee. Dong arrived on the 0815 and brought a huge quantity of egg rolls and Pad Tai - both delicious. They will make for a few primary meals. Not too good a day in fact by noon there were showers later in the afternoon we had a long drawn out thunderstorm. This, of course, was when Diane, Peter, Timothy and Shamus arrived on the 1515 boat. Diane managed to get soaked after going for tickets in the pouring rain. The storm ended, but by Tuesday morning we had a very foggy morning. Later in the day Diane, Pam, Christian and Shamus walked around the island. Dad and Peter worked at the 5th Maine putting in new locks. Other than these happenings it was a pretty routine day. We did get Tripoli in after supper.

On Wednesday we woke up to heavy rain and fog which kept going most of the morning. Needless to say activities for the day were changed - like no market day. Dad was elected to go to town to pick up lobsters for Mom and Pam and Haddock for Dad, Diane and Christian. The others had to fend for themselves. The afternoon turned out to be beautiful - comfortable on the island - hot in town as Dad found out. He did manage to pick up the material needed to repair the slate counters on either side of the sink. He also got instructions on how to do it, an unusual approach for him. Both sides are now broken, not just cracked but really broken.

Thursday was Ball Game day for Mom, Dad and the Sullivan Clan. It turned out to be a great Day, although a few hours in the sun was a bit much. It was a sold out noon game. We had never been to a daytime game before so it was a pleasant change. It would have been better if the Sea Dogs had won - lost 8 to 6. A stop at the Planet Dog store on the way back to catch the 1630 pretty much finished the day off. Friday found the "girls heading for the Cumberland Craft Fair and to the Christmas Tree Store while the "boys" spent their time at the 5th Maine working on locks and installing a dehumidifier. Dad also had to spend a couple of those hours as Docent.

Now the weekend is upon us and Saturday meant yard sales, but only one significant thing was purchased I think. Christian bought a huge oil painting of a 7 masted schooner which Dad thinks was launched in Bath, Maine, and sank, capsized or something. Off hand he doesn't remember the name. Dad joined and we toured the island particularly a very beautiful garden where Pam and Diane took pictures plus we had to find Queen Anne's Lace for more pictures (kind of a neat WEED) and a area of downed trees that haven't been cleared yet from the big May storm. Diane found that her car was dead, had it brought to life only to have it die again.

Busy day Sunday. Pam and Christian departed on the 0815, the earliest on Sunday. Diane went to town on the 0945 (the next boat) to get a battery. Dad got involved in getting organized to sell hot dogs and hamburgers at the Art on the Porch at the 5th Maine (crafts). Diane came back on the 1115 with battery in tow and what seemed like a million people coming to the island. Then we all went to the craft show (Peter and Timothy were already there working) Dad called Paul Bridges (AAA island mechanic) to install the battery. As it turned out this is not an easy task in her van. He also found some suspicious corrosion which he also repaired. I will not go into detail because I hope she writes something up about her happenings with the car on Saturday, Sunday and now on Monday. It makes quite a story. Mom did make it to Mass and Dad pretty much spent most of the day at the 5th Maine. Mom did manage to spend a little time at the craft show. It has been an interesting and busy couple days and hopefully Diane will provide an addendum about her Chevy Van experiences.

That's about it for now. We will try to be on time this week.

Love, Mom and Dad
