Island Update Ending August 15, 2004

Here we are half way through August already. Monday was pretty routine except for the Lions Club Variety show, the first of 2 nights. We didn't think it was as good as usual and a bit disorganized, but it was still fun and I think we all had a good time.

Tuesday, Dad, Pete, Peter and Timothy toured the island. First to one of the tall observation towers where they all went in through a very small window from a rickety ladder. No, I didn't go in! If I had I would still be trying to get out. They all managed to go to the very top too. Then we went over to Battery Steele and went everywhere in that place, even places I had never been before. Then we went up on top. I had never been up there before either. After that It was off to the Sea Dogs game where, thanks to our neighbors we had extra tickets so Aunt Jeanne and Uncle Dick came down from the lake and joined us. The Sea Dogs won in the 12th, but we had to leave at the end of the 9th to catch the 1030 boat.

Wednesday was a peaceful day except for the terrific thunderstorm from 0630 to 0730 that came wondering by. After that we had a nice day. Everyone but Dad, Mom and Shamus (big dog) went to Freeport and then to the Sea Dogs game with tickets provided by Blaine and Shela next door. They all came back on the 2115 boat. We started Thursday with heavy rain and fog, but despite it all Mom, Daine and Lauren headed to the Cumberland Craft Fair and guess what, it turned out to be a beautiful day. Mom did say she walked her feet off. Dad puttered around not accomplishing much while the rest of the crew took a long walk and when they got back Pete mowed the lawn. The day was topped off with another delicious lobster dinner of which only Mom, Dad and Pete partook.

Friday started off rather early with a super rainstorm (2.5 plus inches in Portland) which had Mom running around closing windows. It came with wind which shifted all around so every window got wet and you know there are lots of those. After that it was foggy with rain off and on all day, but never really hard. Diane and Pete treated us to a very nice lunch at the Cockeyed Gull which was the first time we had been there this summer. We are really way behind after having gotten such a late start.

Saturday, the Sullivan clan somehow got their car all packed and managed to catch the 1445 boat (they were car #12 of 12) on their way to Pennsylvania to drop Lauren off at gymnastics camp. Mom managed to wash sheets (this was a beautiful day) so we had two beds ready even before they left. Other than that we had a lightish supper and watched the Olympics until 2315, which is past our bedtime.

Today we were supposed to have heavy rain and high winds, but when we woke up we had a steady light rain to walk in to 0815 Mass. The rain lasted until about midmorning and then it was just turned out to be an overcast cool day. We kind of took it easy although I spent hours trying to figure out why our printer refuses to print. I guess what I need is the software disc which I seem to have forgotten to bring with us. I forgot a number of things this year. Not having a printer is very frustrating when one tries to write letters. All this technology really makes for a tough life. As I type this Mom is down watching the Olympics. As for me I am just about Olympiced (I know that is not a word) out.

So from the cool wet northeast that is it for this week.

Love, Mom and Dad
