Island Update Ending August 17, 2002

Weather: Had none this week. It did get up to 88 on Wed on the island which turned out to be our only "fan day" this week. We also got about 5 minutes of rain on Fri which only added to the humidity.

Sunday I spent about 4 hours cooking hot dogs and hamburgers at the 5th Maine. Monday we all went to the Lions Club Variety Show in the evening which was rather good, but long. Christian lasted through half of it. Tue Pam and Christian went to the Children's Museum while Mom and I stayed on the island to wait for the Sears man who canceled his trip to the island this week. He only ventures out to the island on Tuesdays. We did finished putting the back hall together and I replaced the key switch in the old golf cart so now it goes in reverse just fine. THIS IS ANOTHER OF THE LIST OF EIGHT BROKEN THINGS THAT WE HAVE FIXED.

On Wednesday we all went to town (88 on island, 93 in town) this being farmer's market day. Mom and I went to the lighting of Bug Light, Mom's favorite light. It was extinguished in 1942 at the beginning of WWII. It was never relighted after the war because, although it was at the end of a very long breakwater, this area was filled in during the war to make room for a shipyard. We got to go in it after the ceremony. Not too big, but we got to do it anyway. It is really only a token light right now with a visibility of 3 mile. Not very much, but we can see it from the house if we look real hard.

Thursday we all went to town again, this time to ride the narrow gauge railroad, visit the museum and then I got to have my first fried clams of the year at the Village Cafe. Fri we took the day off except I played docent at the 5th Maine in the afternoon as I do every Fri afternoon until Labor Day. Sat Mom worked at the church rummage sale all day long so she was rather pooped by the end of the day, and rightfully so.

This doesn't count of this weeks activities, but Stephen et al including Casco arrived on the 1115 boat this morning. Love, Dad
