Island Update Ending August 17, 2003

Monday was a beautiful day except very humid.  We are getting a bit tired of everything being sticky and/or soggy.  Pete arrived with sinus problems so today the clinic gave him all sorts of medicine to work on that.  They did all manage to get to the sandy beach.  Mom worked in the garden.  This wet weather is either making everything grow like crazy or it is rotting the plants.  I was kind of worn out from yesterday so I didn't do much except make some repairs at the 5th of things that came up over the weekend.  Peter seemed to develop a bug or whatever this evening and hopefully will be fine in the morning.  On Tuesday can you believe it, we woke up to fog and showers.  The group went to town & Freeport leaving Peter home with us.  He has recovered nicely.  They came back on the 2115 boat with a cart full of stuff.  Other than that a routine day.  It was too wet to mow the lawn or work outside.  Also too wet to paint.  This weather has really limited my projects.

Wednesday Mom, Lauren and I were off to the farmers market on the 1045, back on the 1415 after a few other errands.  Other than that a very peaceful day.  Thursday, Diane and I caught the 0815 to go down to "The Old House Parts Co." in Kennebunk looking for a newel post for Diane.  Yes, she found one and after she got it home reports it fits perfectly.  What a neat place it was, lots of great things to dig around for.  I also wanted to go to the Trolley Museum to see how they installed a screen door on the inside.  We never quite made it, but after the fact figured we were about 1.5 miles away at one point.  I'll make it later.  Daine and Pete took us out to dinner at the Cockeyed Gull - delicious meal.  Then I was off to the annual meeting at the 5th.  I agreed to stay on for another year along with the rest of the board.  As for Mom she was off to play BEANO at Marges.  She came home a winner.

Friday was a busy day with the crew getting ready to leave.  Diane trimmed the hedges and Pete mowed the lawn, did some of the hedge and some other bushes, weed wacked and took what I consider a trash bush out much to Nancy's (next door Nancy) chagrin because by her account she loved that awful looking thing.  (She is all at ease about that now.) The crew were all over the island and even found the TV show "While you Were Out" filming not far up the street from us.  Tonight we took care of Timothy's birthday with roast chicken, corn, corn bread and mashed potatoes with gravy, all at his request.  There of course was cake and later some us had Mom's delicious blueberry pie.

Saturday, the Sullivan crew less Lauren were off on the 0715.  Mom managed to have the sheets done and back on the Pineapple bed.  As for Dad he was with Dong off and on all day long.  We did have a terrific thunderstorm this PM with a peak wind gust of 40MPH.  This was when lightening hit a telephone pole just down the street and did in the modem in the computer.

Sunday, oh what a peaceful day, church at 0815, usual Sunday morning breakfast and nothing to do but read the paper.  All of a sudden Mom and Lauren decided we should go to the Balloon Festival in Lewiston so we rushed up to catch an unscheduled boat, the Bay Mist, around 1230.  It seems the car ferry broke down again.  Off we went with no idea what we were doing or where this thing was going on.  We did find it and had a good time.  We even took a tethered balloon ride.  With that ride we decided we are going for a real balloon ride for our 50th anniversary.  Anyway, at 1730 they started filling these hot air balloons all over the park and launching them.  I don't know how many went up, but there were a bunch and very very colorful.  Near the end we ran into Jeanne and Dick. Small world.  We eventually caught the 2015 boat and that finished another rather busy week.

Love, Mom and Dad
