Island Update Ending August 27, 2006

This was a rather quiet week as weeks go. It has been a cool week and as this is written the wind is howling and it is downright cold to the point that we closed the windows here in the bedroom. Anyway, on Monday we wondered up to the lake to see Aunt Jeanne and Uncle Dick and spend the night. It took us awhile because we had to chat with Dong awhile and then the roofers. We finally caught the 1145 and had an uneventful trip. Dad did manage to order the drive belt for the riding mower. We played Liverpool in the evening. Mom and Uncle Dick won.

We woke up early as usual on Tuesday and sat around and talked until someone said perhaps we should go to breakfast, a nice place a few miles up the road. It was a late breakfast which kind of canceled our plans for fish and chips in Brunswick. We did get to the commissary (last trip) and then managed to have Dairy Queen before heading back to catch the 1515 ferry. We did stop at the Worumbo Mill Outlet in Lisbon Falls where we bought a couple pillows for the den bed. Dong was working on the cedar shingles when be got home and Dick & Mike had finished the roofs. They really look nice. Now what we need is for Mom and Dad to settle down and get their task done.

Wednesday we always go to town to the market and today was no different except we also went to hear a demonstration of the Kerschner Organ at the Merrill Auditorium in city Hall. We went to a similar presentation a number of years ago including going behind the scenes and into the organ itself. We didn't do this since we had done it before and there were lots of people waiting. Anyway, we had almost a private showing the last time with the seniors. Afterwards we had coffee and a muffin before catching 1415 boat home. In the evening Dad went to a lecture on Naval Sea Operations in Casco Bay, mostly during WWII. Quite interesting.

Thursday was a very uneventful day. We started by walking with Denise after which we worked in the garden, finished trimming the hedges, started painting the last pineapple room window and took window #2 out of the laundry room for a major redo. Diana was over in the late afternoon for a break and regaled us about her past crazy couple of days and Dong didn't finish work until after 1900 so we didn't eat supper (steak, fries and corn on the cob) until 2000. Fashionable I guess.

Very routine day on Friday morning. Mom caught the 1245 boat to go see "Moon Over Buffalo" at the Arundel Barn. She reports it was very good. Dad stayed home because he was Docent at the 5th Maine. He did manage to work on some windows, but other than that it was a very quite day except for Dong's hammering shingles.

On Saturday we managed to finally catch the 1245 ferry to go to the Sidewalk Art Festival. As always it was kind of fun or interesting depending on your point of view. We only bought one small picture of the bottom of a red back door with weeds or perhaps flowers growing out of the steps. Sort of goes with the door in the door picture in the downstairs bathroom. Popcorn for supper.

As you might suspect we went to 0815 Mass today, Sunday. It was a very overcast dreary day with some rain in the afternoon which included a strong cold easterly wind. We finished the windows in the pineapple room, hung some pictures, did some cleaning, worked on pillars (one base is very rotten )and after Dad had removed the base and the pillar was just hanging, the wind came and blew it down with a crash. No damage to anything though. We had Mom's delicious baked haddock for supper and that pretty much concluded the day.

Love, Mom and Dad
