Island Update Ending August 3, 2003

1st--Left over from last week. We came home from 0815 Mass to find Lucky sitting on the bank going up to the road with her back to the road just looking at the house.

2nd--Important website for all of you to peruse - www.HockerForGovernor.com

Now to get on with the business of the week. Lots of trucks, etc., running around which I had to follow to find out what was going on. Mostly fill. Mom, Cindy & Maggie were off to town this PM. John Lee and I stayed behind to mow the lawn. He did 90% of it. I also worked on the basement door. Then around supper time John Lee & I finally moved our old double bed mattress and box springs to the basement. Preparation for ultimate disposal?

Tuesday, temperature was 60 when Cindy, Maggie, John Lee and Lucky departed on the 0615. On our way home we bought a couple delicious blueberry muffins, still warm, for breakfast. Cindy being Cindy, she already had a load of sheets washing when she left. By early afternoon, Mom had all the beds changed waiting for the next group. I did paperwork (I am so far behind I may never get caught up) and some misc. chores here and at the 5th. The day was beautiful.

Wednesday we went to town to pick up a few things from my ongoing list of things to get on our next trip to town plus some grocery shopping. We took both carts in, planning to leave one in the car, but back we came with both carts full. Mom and I did the refreshments after a speaker at the 5th Maine in the evening. Very interesting talk about the sinking of the USS Eagle just off Portland a few weeks before WWII ended in Europe. The Navy claimed it sank because of a boiler explosion when in fact it was torpedoed by a German submarine. We just puttered around on Thursday. No Beano for Mom at Marge's, but I had a 5th board meeting in the evening. It lasted a couple hours which was very unusual.

Friday was a rainy cold day. Mom and I redid part of one of the old La-z-boys and I was Docent all afternoon. Diane et al including Shamus arrived on the 1915 boat. They were in time for the 1735, but it was full so they ended up second in line for the 1915. Temperature dropped to 58 so we turned the heat on before they arrived to take the chill off. Saturday was also a chilly day, high 69, low 59. Aunt Jeanne and Emma came down for a few hours so Emma could visit a friend before leaving for Maryland that night. Otherwise a rather peaceful day.

Today, Sunday, has been a foggy, foggy, foggy day all day long. I can only assume Portland is still there because we haven't seen it all day. Diane, Peter and Shamus did walk around the island today. No, we didn't go. We are morning walkers and they went in the afternoon.

That is it for this week. Looking at the calendar we have a busy week ahead of us.

Love, Dad
