Island Update Ending July 13, 2002

Another week has gone flying by. Weather: Uneventful week. High was 82, low 56. We did have one wild thunderstorm a little after midnight on Tuesday with our highest recorded gust yet of 47 mph.

BBQ tested fine which is good because it is one of the ones I use at the annual 5th Maine fair to cook hot dogs and hamburgers. That was yesterday and I and another fellow cooked for 3 1/2 hours.

Another accomplishment! We now have a real clothesline, 2 strands, running from the house out to the bushes where we planted a 4x4 pressure treated cherry tree replacement. Looks rather good if I do say so myself.

Dong started doing some work on the house. He is Vietnamese and it is a long story on how we got to know him. Anyway, he took down what was left of the gutters around the front porch and has replaced all the fascia like we did on the back porch. Also painted all the white trim on the North side of the house, painted the pillars and rails on the front porch and painted the porch ceilings a very light blue. He is also going to put a protective Plexiglas type cover over the stained glass window.

On Wednesday we had lunch with the Hawes, their son David and Ellen's daughter Allison. Got a new battery for the new golf cart, but that didn't do the trick so Greg, the golf cart mechanic in Lewiston is coming down next Wednesday to try and fix it. I can't imagine what that will cost us. If I had our truck here I could take it up to him. Oh well!

Friday, Diane et al, less Pete arrive on the 1730 boat. She barely made the boat. Saturday was the Fair and by Saturday night we were all pooped. The kids all ended up with jobs, Peter being my assistant spent his time running all over the place on errands for me and a number of other people. I think everyone had a good time.

That is it for now. Love, Dad
