Island Update Ending July 18, 2004

It doesn't seem possible that we are at the end of another week. Monday took off in a hurry. I caught the 0815 to get our E-Z Pass for Cindy then caught the 0915 back where Mom & Christian picked me up and Pam took off to town. We, or rather Mom, took care of Christian while Pam was in town. I was docent at the 5th all afternoon (1300-1700), but spent part of the time fixing things. Found out the gal mowing the lawn is a school teacher so are contributing to her employment during the summer. Beside that I am tired of mowing the lawn and Mom won't let me get a riding mower.

Tuesday - overcast, some rain and the temperature never got out of the 60s. Pam and I worked on another section of hedge with Christian hauling off the clippings and throwing them over the bank. Mom was busy with laundry. As I type this I just realized that we never finished that section of hedge and tomorrow it is supposed to rain. Oh well!

Wednesday was a crummy day - overcast, fog, drizzle, rain, you name it we had it. Also quite cool, in fact I had the furnace on to take the chill off this morning. We all went to town anyway to go to the farmer's market and so Mom could get her hair cut. We also met Aunt Jeanne and Uncle Dick. Too much drizzle at the market so we gave that up. Mom and Jeanne did get their haircut - Pam and Christian did their own thing and caught the 1215 back to Peaks. After haircuts the rest of us had lunch then Mom and I headed for grocery shopping since supplies are getting low. We caught the 1915 and had Pam meet us with the golf cart in the now rain. We brought 2 cart loads down on the boat and had to leave some stuff behind in the car.

Thursday we woke up to overcast skies and fog, but the sun eventually tried to come out and it warmed up slightly to the mid 60s - we ran the furnace again in the morning. We took off on the 1445 boat today for shopping, me to Home Depot (I wish they would get Lowe's built) and the rest to the Christmas Tree Store. Then it was off to the airport to pick up Greg. Mom picked up chowder and we caught the 2015 boat home, where as you might suspect, we had supper. Everyone was pretty well pooped.

Friday, the early morning fog left us and it turned into a beautiful day so the Ulans crew went to town to go out on a lobster boat. From all reports it was a great trip. Mom and I just kind of relaxed and did misc. things the needed doing. They came back with lobsters for supper - great! Saturday was routine and a very nice day. Mom and I did go see Harriet Beecher Stowe at 1300 at the 5th. She was excellent. Greg fixed his "Perfect Chicken" for supper (sooo good) after which we went up the street for ice cream.

Sunday ends the week with the 0815 Mass followed by my breakfast for the crew on the porch. After breakfast, mid-morning, we (less Mom) went for a tour of the island which we hadn't gotten around to doing since Pam arrived. Mom and Pam went to an openhouse, a condominium at the "Avenue House." They were not impressed. Tonight they went out to dinner at the Cockeyed Gull which they said was very good although a bit pricy.

With that it is off to bed before the beginning of another exciting week here on Peaks Island, Maine.
