Island Update Ending July 20, 2003

Here we are at the end of another week. How time flies. Last year I critiqued the weather first which I will try again stating next week. I have had the weather station up for a couple weeks now, but half the time I forget to read it. I am planning to overcome that problem this week.

Monday turned out to be a busy day. Pam cut the final section of hedge, Mom worked on getting the house in order and preparing on going to the commissary and I finished the window I started yesterday in the back bedroom. Tuesday we awoke to fog. Mom and I were off to the commissary and exchange on the 0815 and managed to catch the 1515 back to the island. We managed to do everything right even though this was payday and we expected crowds. We came after the big push in the commissary. Lunch was at Subway with a DQ after. The only interesting thing was on our way to BJ's we took the toll road, traffic was heavy and I missed the basket with one quarter. Oh well, so it cost us $.75 rather than 50.

On Wednesday, it was fog to start with followed by rain, but we went to the Farmer's Market anyway. Pam took us to lunch at the Village Cafe (this provided my fried clam fix) and we came home. We ended up soaking wet. Tonight Mom and I went to see Sophie Tucker at the 5th. The gal was good, but by her own admission she is still working on this character.

Thursday was another busy day - 0945 boat for all of us to go to the Christmas Tree store. Back on the 1415. Then we transported some friends of a friend to the boat followed not much later to Mom and I catching the 1700 boat to see the Sea Dogs play and win. Back again on the 2230. Friday was a peaceful day with a few showers. I had Docent duty so that took the afternoon for me. We had delicious baked haddock for supper which we had picked up from the fish market yesterday. Mom sure does a good job with that.

Saturday was a rather routine day with my plans including getting ready for a cook out at the 5th. Later in the morning we were offered tickets to the Sea Dogs by our neighbors so we decided to go since Christian seems to enjoy that game last week. We caught the 1615 for the 1800 game. We left the game when the Sea Dogs were behind 14 to 8 so we could catch the 2115 boat. Christian managed to devour just about any food in sight just as one does at a ball game. The Dogs ended up loosing 15 to 11. We of course missed the end as well as the fireworks. Oh well.

Today Mom and I were off to church at 0815 since I had to set up at the 5th Maine. Setting up and taking down pretty much took most of my day. This was antique appraisal day sort of like the Antiques Road Show. Mom and Pam brought up a couple pictures. I didn't cook, but I did a lot of chatting. We didn't sell too much food, but in the end the 5th made some $512. Not bad for something new and different. I don't think we will bother with the hot dogs and hamburgers next year since this was not a family participation function. My next big cooking day is August 10 which will be the end of my season. After that it is just repair, repair, repair to the building.

That is another week in review. More to follow next Sunday and perhaps I will get to the rest of the story this week.

Here is episode one of the Lawyer Perry appearance or did he really appear? It was a dark night a couple weeks ago when Aunt Jeanne, Uncle Dick, Allison, Pam and Christian were all here. It was about 0130 (that is in the morning). The players were pretty much snug in their beds. Aunt Jeanne and Uncle Dick were in the back bedroom, however, Aunt Jeanne was in the bathroom at this hour. Mom and I were the front bedroom, but I was sort of half awake/half asleep. Allison was in the den and Pam and Christian were sleeping in the pineapple bed. Every thing upstairs was pretty normal except that in the den the two mattresses from our bed were leaning against the sewing table/bookcase just inside the door. The bathroom light was on as it always is all night long, but of course it was really dark in the hall because Aunt Jeanne was in the bathroom. Nothing else was going on in the rest of the house nor does the rest of the house enter into this story. Now you have the players or do we since Lawyer Perry hasn't entered into this story yet.

Now remember it is 1:30 in the morning. Mom wakes up and sits on the edge of the bed because she hears doors opening and shutting and the floors giving off those peculiar sounds in an old house in the middle of the night or perhaps footsteps causing the floors to creak and groan. Amazingly, her reaction was that Allison must have gotten up. Aunt Jeanne also heard these creaking sounds only in her case the door knob to the bathroom also rattled and her response was to say "yeeeees?" in a way that only Aunt Jeanne can say it and the sounds went away. Like Mom, her reaction was that Allison probably got up.

Here we are with all sorts of strange goings on and those who have heard these strange noises are really not particularly concerned although you might expect they would be. What in the world is happening? Can this all be explained? Keep a watchful eye out for Part 2 and "The rest of the story!"
