Island Update Ending July 22, 2007

Another exciting week has drawn to an end. Painting started on Monday and has continued all week despite the weather. We started with an oil based undercoat followed by a coat of latex. The house is really looking great and is pretty much the same color that Grandfather used. Dong and one of his new helpers pretty much worked all week and hopefully will finish in a couple days next week. Mom started the week by attacking some more curtains, this time in the card table corner of the living room. On Tuesday, Mom and Dad went to the TEIA Senor Luncheon which, just as last year, was very well done and there was tons of food.

Wednesday was commissary day and fish and chips day in Brunswick. Fog, drizzle, and light showers, none of which were problems. We went in on the 0815 and back on the 1515. We brought back 2 cart loads with us and still have loads of stuff in the car.. We went to a talk at the 5th in the evening "Scoundrels & Scalawags" - history of presidential elections since the US came into existence. Fairly interesting - politics have always been suspect! Thursday was another foggy damp day with heavy rain at night. Mom and Dad went with the Seniors to "All Shook Up" featuring songs of Elvis Presley. Great show held at the Hackmatack Playhouse in Berwick roughly an hour south of here. Returned on the 1735 boat just in time for a light super so Dad could go to an extremely boring and long 5th Maine Board meeting.

Down pours started the day. Dad went to town to pick up some things and bring back items left behind after the commissary trip. Despite a huge cart load there are still things in the car. Saturday turned out to be a beautiful day. Mom went to the library book sale (bought 5 books), then Mom and Dad went to the Bracket Church Fair (bought only 1 piece of fudge), picked up and delivered 7 big dishes of cobbler to the 5th Maine, this was Civil War Day at the 5th & 8th Maine (we didn't go), Mom cleaned and Dad did some trim painting since the trim is not part of what Dong is painting, and finally both helped at the Bean Supper at the 5th. The day started with trying to find a gasoline smell that developed in the house. Dong and Dad finally found the riding mower gas line had leaked about 2 gallons of gas under the porch. Fixing that kind of screwed up a rather busy day. The amazing thing was Dad had gas line and clamps to fix it, hopefully for good.

Sunday was the usual day with Mass (got there a good 15 minutes early), breakfast, more painting and cleaning and getting things in order and Dad spent a few hours as docent you know where. It was also a very beautiful day. Dong finished enough painting so he can continue painting without bothering Cindy et al arriving tomorrow. He really doesn't like to work around the house when we have visitors, no matter who they are.

That is about it for this week.

Love, Mom & Dad
