Island Update Ending July 27, 2002

Weather: Pretty quiet this week. High was 83 (Tue) low 54 (Fri). That high is rather misleading because it has been pretty cold all week.

Sunday everyone but Timothy and me went to town. We stayed home to fix things like we defrosted the refrigerator, fixed the gas line in the old golf cart and fixed the window in the back bedroom which broke when we tried to put it up last week. I have saved all the old windows so I just used one of them. It was one of the 2 upstairs that have not been replaced. As for the gas line the cart was leaving a trail of gas where ever it went. As there are a number of lines running around that cart I ended up with about 4 feet of gas line and 8 or 10 clamps to make sure I had enough. The first line I took off was about 4 inches long and had an obvious hole in it. Replacing that fixed the problem and I have lots of spare gas line for future problems. Monday was a day off. Tue Diane and the kids went to town to pick up a few things missed earlier. Wed they departed on the 0715 boat and we went in on the same boat to run some errands. We ended up catching the 1630 boat back! On Thu I did managed to put a second coat of paint on the same section of porch I painted a month ago. Betsy was off to meet Jeanne and Dick on Friday to get a haircut. I have Docent duty at the 5th Maine on Fridays so I stayed behind. As it turned out I spent about 5 hours staining a small library room we have built there. The only thing that saved me was running out of the quart of stain I had.

Saturday was very busy. It started early with the Island to Portland swim at 0830. That is always fun to watch. Then I went to finish putting the library room back together and Mom sold tickets for the House Tour. Putting the room back together took longer than expected (mainly because I had to keep running home for things), the ticket sellers ran out of tickets so we had to print more which turned out to be no easy task. After that it was lunch followed by going on the house tour which is always lots of fun. Then it was back home to get ready to go to the book dedication for the new library room at the 5th Maine by the family of a deceased lady who was very active in the 5th Maine. After that we were pooped, came home and fell asleep in front of the TV.

I think that is it for this week. We expect a calmer week starting today. Love, Dad
