Here we are on Monday, up bright and early to see Pam and Christian off on
the 0615 boat. Mom did laundry and we both straightened out the house as we
always do when someone leaves. We also found the usual number of things that
were missed when getting ready to leave.
Tuesday started with fog. Dad went to town on the 0945 and ran
errands while Mom baked. Dad picked up our second and matching LA-Z-BOY, bought a
new BBQ (the other one was getting quite ill), and picked up numerous other
items on the list for the next trip to town. Cindy, John Lee, Maggie and Lucky
arrived on the 1530 boat (I think). Dad returned on the 1415 with the car load
of stuff. Wednesday started out foggy again with some rain so we caught the
1045, we being Mom, Dad and Cindy with the car. Purpose was to go to the
Farmer's Market and for Mom to get a haircut. We met Jeanne and Dick at the
Market and then we all trooped over to the hairdressers. Dick and I ran some
errands and then stopped over at Bug Light Park, a rather neat place. Then it was
off to the Public Market where we all had fish and chips. Very good! Back on
the 1615 boat. John Lee and I went for a ride in the golf cart as did Maggie
and I. She was the driver since she has a learner's permit. She is a good
driver.
Thursday we walked around the island in the fog and light rain, our
first since arriving back in Maine. Just island living today. We did move
chairs around so now there are 2 new matching La-z-boys in living room and 2 old
ones on the upstairs porch. Friday was a great day weather wise. Everyone but
Dad went to Freeport and other places. I stayed since Friday I am a docent
at the 5th. I did get the new BBQ ready to go and we used it to cook supper
(PM Chicken).
Saturday turned out to be a beautiful day. 0830 was the Peaks Island
to Portland swim and later in the morning the road race with what seems like
many more joggers than usual. Cindy and Mom tried to find yard sales, but it
wasn't a good day. We did get down to the beach for the first time. Even
Lucky came along. Not much else went on, but we did have lobster for supper. All
soft shell now. Sunday was church at 0815. During Mass it poured, but it
was over before we got out and that was it for the day. We decided to pass on
pancakes at the 5th for Dad's beacon, eggs and potato breakfast. Probably a
smart thing if I do say so myself. Cindy, Mom and Maggie went to town shopping
while Dad fixed chairs for the 5th and adjusted the double doors in the
basement that were not quite right. Must tell Dong about that. Hamburgers and hot
dogs for supper preceded by ice cream cones at the ice cream store finished
out day off. The weather next week is supposed to be magnificent, but who can
belief a meteorologist?

THE REST OF THE LAWYER PERRY STORY
Just to refresh your memory if you didn't run off the first episode. It is
0130 in the morning and Mom is sitting on the edge of the bed, Dad is only half
awake and Aunt Jeanne is in the bathroom. Everyone else is all snug in their
beds with perhaps the exception of Lawyer Perry. With all the doors closed to
the hall including the bathroom where a light stays on all night it is very
dark in the hall. Of course there are various noises, movements and doors
opening and closing as well as doorknobs twisting. Now let's see what really
happened as told to us by Lawyer Perry.
Lawyer Perry is the man who built this house around 1910 or so. That
makes him pretty old at this point and perhaps a bit forgetful or confused at
times. Anyway, we will let him tell the story in his own words.
"I awoke from a rather sound sleep at 0130 (I have always liked to use
military time, particularly since Col. Hocker bought the house) and had the
urge to go to the bathroom, not unusual for a man my age. I guess I really
didn't wake up completely because I thought I was in a castle or an English manor
house like Mick and Betsy stayed when they were in England. As a ghost there
is not much I miss. Anyway, I got up, but I couldn't figure out where the
bathroom was. I opened the closet door in the master bedroom (yes that was where
I was sleeping at the time, I often sleep in different rooms), but I saw
clothes hanging and figured they were uniforms for the servants. Then I walked
around the bed and out on to the upstairs porch only to find nothing but
windows, obviously no bathroom here. I think I then went out to the dark, dark hall
and opened the door to the big linen room, but I don't recall what I thought
that was except I guess I figured out it wasn't a bathroom either. Then I
opened the door to the den where I was faced with another array of windows. There
was also two double bed mattresses leaning against the sewing table/bookcase
just inside the door so I figured that was a storage room and closed the door.
It was then I noticed a light switch so it occurred to me this place did
have electricity. I then went toward where the bathroom really is and looked
down the stairs where some light was coming in. I figured this was the outside
door (it was really light coming in the stained glass window on the stair's
landing) and not likely to be a direction to the bathroom. I am sure I was not
being exactly quiet during all these goings on which bothers me some because I
don't like to bother people, at least not too much. Anyway, I could see light
around another door which I also figured lead outside and I guess I much have
turned the knob because a voice from what seemed far, far away said "yeeeees?
yeeeeees?" Well, I have been a professional ghost for a long time and this
even startled me and I retreated to the big bedroom. With that the toilet
flushed, the door opened, the hall lighted up and Jeanne went on back to her
bedroom. As for me, I tried to be as unnoticeable as possible. Mick woke up the
rest of the way and Betsy asked what in the world was going on.
And that is the rest of the story. Was it Mick, was it Lawyer Perry
or was it just a dream? You will have to make that determination. Dad did go
buy an automatic night light for the hall so it will never be dark again
unless of course I decide to turn it off just for fun. As for Mick, he got up and
went to the bathroom and had no problem finding it. He and Betsy discussed
the goings on, but in no time were fast, fast asleep."
With that we have nothing to add. Love, Mom and Dad
