Island Update Ending July 6, 2002

Was it hot up here? Sure it was, but not as hot as many many places. We had 3 fan nights, Tue, Wed and Thu, with hottest on Wed, 91 on the island. It cooled off on the 4th so it was very pleasant on the porch watching the fireworks. They were very good this year. It was a fan night because the heat stayed upstairs until late.

Sunday was pancake breakfast at the 5th and they provided jelly/jam for Mom. We have been pushing for that for years, but I think they only had one jar which they took back after we left. Monday was fog, drizzle, thunder showers and showers so we waited until Tue to go to town and was it ever hot.

We had lots of errands to run of which we accomplished most and then had Chinese for lunch. Aunt Jeanne, Uncle Dick and Allison (Ellen's oldest) arrived on Wednesday followed by Glen, a friend of theirs, on the 4th. We also know him and he came from Washington State to be here on the 4th for one night. He plans to come back next year. He is quite a character. I guess I did the new golf cart in on the 4th meeting almost every boat because the Hawes expected David to be on one of them, he never was, but did meet them at the lake the next day. We also made 2 trips around the island and a few other misc. runs. Anyway, the next morning when meeting another boat it died. I did get it home. Fri (golf cart death day) everyone left. Saturday Saint Christopher's had their annual fair where we took lots of chances, but as usual won nothing.

Here is a list of what is broken up here.

  1. Van - we tried it for a 2nd time and it still has problems.
  2. New golf cart is dead with unknown problems.
  3. Old golf cart still runs, but has no reverse. Awaiting parts.
  4. Dryer. It runs, but the timer doesn't work. We took the first new timer back and have since received another. There is a little circuit board in the back which I think "might" be the problem, but I've got to find the right person to ask.
  5. BBQ. I replaced the burner which I salvaged on trash day a couple years ago. I have just received the piece which is used in this grill in place of briquettes. The BBQ should now be fixed, but it is awaiting a trial run.
  6. Clothesline is inoperable because the dead cherry tree that was its post fell last winter. I am waiting for a 12 foot 4x4 as a replacement for the tree.
  7. Scanner - still can't run the printer through it.
  8. Refrigerator - Had to manually defrost after the 4th because the freezer part had frozen solid preventing the cold from reaching the refrigerator proper. This happened many years ago and we got it fixed, but there is no one down here to do that anymore. We are hoping it was overtaxed from opening it to get ice there by letting lots of warm moist air in to thaw and freeze. Perhaps wishful thinking, but its worth a hope.

That is it for the moment, Love, Dad
