Warm week particularly the last couple of days. It got hot upstairs, but not
quite enough to use fans. I still haven't gotten my weather station up
mainly because I don't think of it in the morning and in the afternoon it tends to
be hot on the West side of the house.
On Monday Pam cut the hedge on the dirt road (Centennial Street Rear)
side of the yard. The other tall hedge we are debating on what to do with.
The short hedge I cut on I think Tuesday. I did figure out what is wrong with
the lights on the golf cart (the switch) only to foul up something else. We
are cleaning things up in preparation for Jeanne, Dick and Allison to arrive on
Wednesday. The cleaning and picking up both inside and outside the house
continued on through Tuesday. On Tuesday my friendly cart mechanic and I figured
out why the cart won't work, not even a whimper, and it didn't turn out to be
as serious as I thought -- just a fuze, in fact the only fuze in the system.
Switch and fuze coming over on the boat tomorrow.
Wednesday we all went to town and the market. I intercepted the
package containing the switch and fuze at CBL. We met Jeanne and Dick and gave them
our parking permit. Then it was off to the barbershop to get me and Christian
a haircut, but the barber is on vacation until 7 July. For lunch we had hot
dogs from one of the stands, then Mom and I headed in one direction (basically
back to the boat) and Pam and Christian in another. On our way back we
picked up fresh haddock for supper. Amazingly enough we all arrived to take the
1415 ferry including the Hawes'. I had taken the car up to the parking lot last
night so we had plenty of room for all the baggage and other things being
carried.
Thursday was a rather uneventful day. We all went in various
directions at various times during the day. We also had to get groceries so we had
something for lunch. We are not quite organized food wise. I drooped some
stuff off at the 5th Maine for the Fair a week from now and picked up some more
broken chairs to repair. Friday, of course, was the 4th of July. It was foggy,
some people went to yard sales and Dick and I spent the afternoon at the 5th
Maine where I was docent. We had hot dogs and hamburgers for supper on the
porch and waited patiently for the fireworks to begin. It was a bit chilly and
we all wore sweatshirts. As it turned out the fireworks were canceled because
of the fog.
Saturday was pretty routine also. Mom and I went to a reception at
the 5th Maine that was rather dull, but it was OK. The purpose was to dedicate
a new exhibit. Then it was home to watch the fireworks which this time came
off and were quite good. Sunday started out rather interesting. We were at
0815 Mass, us and lots of others only we were missing the Priest. It seems the
ferry was late because they were missing a crewmember. As Mom would say,
Island living! Quiet day and warm. It seemed as though the golf cart was running
all over the place all day long. I forgot to mention earlier that with the
light switch and fuze installed all is well with the golf cart. We picked up
lobster for supper and cooked it in our new huge cooker this time using the gas
grill that came with it. It really worked out quite well and perhaps this
will save the stove in the kitchen where the big burner is about to fall
through. Anyway it worked out well and the lobster was delicious. The Hawes
contingent will be leaving tomorrow on the 0615 boat since they have to get to
Manchester, NH so Allison can catch a plane home. Manchester, although a cheap
place to fly into, is a 2 hour drive from here once you get off the island.
That is it for tonight. Later this week I will relate the latest
Lawyer Perry story or it might be considered a Paul Harvey "The rest of the
story."
