Island Update Ending June 1, 2003

I must start out with the fact that when you go outside and/or go for a walk you smell lilacs where ever you go. It is really amazing and they smell sooooo good.

It is hard to believe, but a week has gone by already. Not too bad a week, but it did manage to rain at some point every day. Today we were supposed to have a nor'easter. It poured last night and rained off and on all day and now we are having some real wind, but it has not been as advertised.

Monday, Memorial Day was real rainy. It didn't matter because the island celebration was on Sunday. Tuesday we even saw the sun. I managed to get the closure under the porch taken down, but I didn't get the golf cart out until Thursday. Why did it take so long? I have no idea except the truck was still here on the island.

On Wednesday we caught the 0715 boat with the truck and a list of a million things to do. We started out with coffee and delicious blueberry muffins from the coffee shop on the way to the boat. We started with LL Bean and were really quite successful in accomplishing things except we finally ran out of time because I had an appointment with my heart guy at 1515. Everything seems to be okay with him, my blood pressure and EKG were fine and he listened to my heart which I assume was fine also. We learned some interesting things from him like they don't always unblock arteries because the body sometimes finds ways around the blockage so it doesn't matter. Never heard that before. He will schedule some sort of stress test before the summer is over. We caught the 1715 boat back with only one shopping cart although we left some things that didn't matter in the truck.

Thursday was mow the lawn day and get the golf cart out. It works just fine. I haven't gotten the other one out yet. Mom worked in the garden and I am not quite sure what we accomplished, but we were both busy all day and into the evening. Friday we set up the Queen sized bed, but Mom really likes the old bed partly because she says this one is too hard. I am trying to convince her otherwise, but really it is pretty hard in fact it is very hard. We also paid John Kiely who jacked up the kitchen windows. He used 2 30 ton jacks and managed to get that bay up about 2 inches. That was the best he could do. The windows are still a little off, but I think I can get the new windows in without too much trouble. We shall see and you all will hear about them.

Saturday we just did our thing of getting the house in order. We also went for a nice walk. Today being Sunday we were off to church in the rain. I had put a tarp over the seats so we went in the golf cart. Much better than walking today. It was a long mass for the island. We had a baptism which are fun up here with Father Fred and we also had a visiting Bishop from the very southern tip of India. The baptism group had refreshments after mass, more like lunch, in the rectory after mass and we and the Bishop sat at the same table. Very interesting man.

That is about it for this week. We should be pretty well settled in by the time we leave to come home.

Love, Mom and Dad
