We got through the first full week with little trouble. We started with waking up to heavy fog and some showers and cold on Monday. We had the furnace going all day long. This sort of put a dampener on some things we planned to do. We did drive around the island and found a couple of new houses that have been build. They are in out of the way places and rather nondescript. We also found some of the places advertised in the paper for sale probably because of the huge tax increase expected on the island. We did see quite a few modifications being made to houses.
Woke up to pea soup fog today, Tuesday, but it soon burned off and it was a beautiful day. Dad mowed more hay so now we have 98% lawn and 2% hay field. Dad has no idea why he didn't finish except he got sidetracked doing other things. Mom worked like crazy in the gardens and we both managed to get some of the porch furniture back in place. Tonight we went up to the Cockeyed Gull for our anniversary and had a perfectly delicious meal.
We caught the 0815 ferry on Wednesday (last car ferry of the day) to take in the van and get it registered in Maine. All went very well except we couldn't register the golf cart for this year because Dad left the insurance policy back in Fairfax. It is now on our list of things to be sure to bring back with is in a couple weeks. This was market day plus we ran lots of errands. We caught the 1515 boat which is the school boat BAH! Thursday Dad finished mowing the hay field and did misc. other tasks while Mom continued the almost never ending task of getting the gardens in shape.
Friday we continued with the planting from our Wednesday trip to the Farmer's Market. The hardest part is figuring out where to plant things. Mom managed and the gardens are really getting to look very nice. The back porch floor got painted and Dad finally got the light hooked up in the shower. At night we had a terrific thunder and lightening storm. What a display Mother Nature put on. Pea soup fog started Saturday morning, then it burned off and it was hot and humid, then came the sea breeze and fog and it was cold again.
Sunday we were up early to go the Lions Club at 0800 for its pancake breakfast (actually pancakes, scrambled eggs, potatoes and sausage). Church was at 1000 followed by visiting Marge and Richard. Then it was off to the Fifth Maine for their Save the Flag Day. There were 3 very fast hours of presentations which I won't to into, but were very very good. We are working on raising $20,000 to save the original regimental flag you have all seen on the on the wall in the hall where it was placed when the building was build in 1888. It has never been moved. We have about $8800 already and with a bit more the renovation project can begin which will take many many months to complete. With that the week is over except Mom is downstairs making miniature banana bread cupcakes for the Senior Luncheon at the Fifth Maine tomorrow.
Love, Mom and Dad
