Island Update Ending June 15, 2003

We start the week out on Monday with fog, drizzle and cold.  Today was Senior Lunch day at the 5th Maine after witch we gave a This'lldo house tour to friends of a friend (Millie) we met at the lunch.  He is a writer and was fascinated with all the books.

Busy day on Tuesday starting with catching the 0815 boat.  We went to the Friendship Cafe for breakfast, to City Hall to register the golfcarts, La-z-Boy store to pick up Mom's new chair, Commissary, Dairy Queen, Home Depot (twice) and BJ's for gas, propane and stuff.  Amazingly enough we pretty much accomplished what we set out to do and caught the 1630 boat back to the island with the truck.  Mom and I were carrying in the La-z-Boy when a man going by with his family or group dropped his backpack and ran over to help Mom.  Then he and I carried the old chair upstairs.  He allowed that that is what people do in Maine and off he went.

Wednesday I did the threshold for the double doors in the basement in concrete.  Turned out quite well if I do say so myself.  The doors stayed wide open overnight which Mom didn't think too much of.  They stayed open the next night also, but once finished Oscar the cat next door won't be able to get in.  That Mom likes.

Thursday I went to town (0815 boat) to get a haircut and lobster and I succeeded on both accounts.  Mom stayed home and worked around the house, a never ending task.  We bought a new lobster pot last week and unfortunately we were in influenced by your grandfather.  It didn't look too big in the store, but it is HUGE.  Great for lots of lobster, but overkill for the two of us.  We decided to use the old pot, but it had rusted through as we expected it would before long since there have been rust spots on the bottom for some tine.  We will get another pot later, perhaps even a normal size.

Friday was overcast, windy and chilly and we ended up turning up the heat.  Just puttered around.  I couldn't get going, but I was weak from hunger this morning because I had a fasting blood test scheduled for 1000, but didn't have it until about 1045.  Tonight we went up to the BIG FISH (New restaurant where the garage used to be) and had a delicious meal.  This was a belated anniversary dinner.  Then we went over and gave Sharon and Kathy the golf cart to play with while we are gone.

Up bright and early on Saturday to catch the 0615 boat to head back to Virginia for about 10 days.  This doesn't count for Peaks, but it was a very pleasant drive south.  We drove straight through, some 600 miles, 603 to be exact.

No message this coming week, but I will start up again when we get back around 25 or 26 June.

Love, Mom and Dad
