Island Update Ending June 27, 2004

Here we go again, departing Fairfax at 0620, Thursday. Made rather good time to Mike's. We were both rather pooped so Mom took a nap at the B&B and I sat outside with my Mountain Dew and newspaper. Later I laid across the foot of the bed and promptly fell asleep myself. Mike came by and we went out to his place to see his new enlarged living quarters. Great improvement, but still full of stuff. Too much to talk about here. Later we took Mike, Jan, and Linda out to dinner. Same place we went last year on the way up and I had delicious home grown lamb chops.

Friday, Mike met us for breakfast at the B&B after which we stopped at the farm, saw Mike & Luci and departed for Maine. One accident on the Mass Turnpike held us up some, but other than that it was an uneventful trip. We did some grocery shopping, enough to carry us over the weekend and caught the 1915 ferry in a thunderstorm. We drove around the island as we usually do on arrival. Not much has changed although we did see 2 new houses which are designed to fit the island. We can probably see more in the real daylight without any rain. House is fine, shower is roughed in with no water or drain hooked up. Soon we hope. Popcorn for supper, car only partially unpacked.

On Saturday it rained off and on all day, but we did manage to get some of the stuff out of the car. Not a good day for what they call the Peaks Fest which will continue tomorrow. The other oil rig left this evening. We heard about it too late to see because of the fog. We should have seen it from the house, but we think we were eating at the time.

Today, Sunday, was a busy day. Breakfast at the Lions Club, got a ride home in Sharon and Kathy's "new" golf cart, church at 1000, visiting at various places, work around the house including finally unloading the rest of the car, off to the Lions Club again to see "The Green-eyed Dragon" skit put on by the Peaks Island School 5th grade, dropped the golf cart off at the parking lot for use tomorrow, then Millie came by the lot to give us a ride home in her golf cart, I finally got the flag up, dinner (Pork on the BBQ), watched gymnastics and fell asleep during the movie.

With that I am off to the showers (actually a bath) and then to bed. Hopefully, the shower will be hooked up tomorrow. Paul said he would. Weather wise it was jacket weather this morning on the way to breakfast although most people had on shorts and T-shirts. Temp got up near 70 and the wind has been howling all day. With that little bit of info I am off.

Love, Dad
