Island Update Ending June 29, 2003

Here we are again back on Peaks. We had a good time while we were gone, but it is good to be back in Maine. We left bright and early (0630) on Wednesday, 25 June, with Pam and Christian in tow, stopped to see Mike where we had a perfectly delightful time and stayed at the B&B near the farm (Mike has even made more headway on his house) and left there on 26 May for Maine. Yes, it was hot, but we survived although we're not to sure the violets will make it. Temperatures reached 96 according the to thermometer in the van. Fortunately, when we crossed the Massachusetts line the temperature fell to the high 80s. We did some shopping before the caught the 2015 boat. Pam came down on a boat an hour earlier and found the house to be hot, hot, hot. Not surprising! Anyway, as to be expected the island was reasonably cool and the house cooled off without having to break out the fans. Our measure of a hot day is when we need a fan to sleep.

We have pretty much taken it easy since arriving, no frantic pace as yet, just the routine stuff. I for one took a couple days off to recover from both trips and a busy schedule at home. Today it was church at 0815, a snack of donuts and coffee in the rectory after church followed by a pancake breakfast at the 5th Maine (just Mom and I). Then I volunteered to docent for a couple hours at you know where since the scheduled docent didn't show up. Pam and Christian took off in the golf cart for who knows where after dropping me off at the 5th Maine. They have spent lots of time collecting shells and sea glass.

Tomorrow we will get started on getting things in shape both inside and out for company arriving on Wednesday. Always lots and lots to do. I even have 5 chairs and a bench to fix from the 5th. There is never a dull moment, but at least we don't have too many things out of commission this year.

That is about the news for the moment. There will be more to follow next Sunday.

Love, Mom and Dad
