Island Update Ending June 5, 2005

Here we are again sending our goings on from Maine where the weather has been just great ever since we arrived. From all reports from everyone who lives up here the weather has been anything but good before we arrived.

We left Fairfax on Wednesday heading to Maine via Bristol, RI to seen Aunt Dottie who is fine. Before we arrived we visited Mom's favorite place on earth, Colt State Park in Bristol. It is on the water, very well maintained and just naturally a lovely spot to visit. For supper we went and had Chinese at a new and very nice Chinese restaurant. I wish we could find a good one at home. In the morning, after digging up some lilies of the valley next door, we set out again for Maine at 1000. We did stop to do some grocery shopping before catching the 1630 ferry. We did our usual ride around the island on the way to the house and only found one new home being built. There must be more going on, but we will look into that later.

Friday was a busy day. Dad mowed half the lawn (actually hay field) and Mom cleaned what bothers her most, windows. We also managed to visit Marge and Richard for a bit. They are about the same. We got the golf cart out on Saturday and Dad painted half the front porch and the back stairs while Mom cleaned. She also picked, for the first time in years, lilacs. They smell really good in the house. Normally they have gone by when we arrive. Everything is late after the cold wet spring this year.

As for today, Sunday, we were off to 1000 Mass and visiting after mass in the rectory where they have quite a spread of food. They do this all winter, It ends next week so I guess winter will be over. This afternoon we went to see Doreen McCann's tap dancers of all ages. We had a good time and it was being recorded and may appear on Children's Miracle Network. Tonight we went to see "O', to be in England" by the Renaissance Voices at the Fifth Maine. It was okay, well actually quite good, but we really could have missed it.

With that we have come to the end our first week with lots of things still to do to get the house in shape. Actually, nothing seems to have changed very much. The only problem we have found with the house is a possible flashing leak around the fireplace chimney. Must look into that.

Love, Mom and Dad
