Island Update Ending June 8, 2003

Wow, another week is gone already. This week's weather has been a mixture of being chilly, windy, rainy, warm, foggy and tonight just plain cold. Monday we just puttered around the house. It seemed as though everything I tried to do I was lacking the right tool or material. I now have lots of jobs pending and ready to go. This was one of those chilly and windy days as was Tuesday.

On Wednesday we caught the 0815 boat and came back on the 1630 after running many many errands. We were both pooped, but we did get things accomplished. Brought back a cart load of stuff and left other things in the truck which we plan on bringing over to the island next Tuesday.

Thursday - Rain and fog all day - I only managed to replace the missing piece on the upstairs vac and Mom and I continued on a clean out cabinets kick. We did find interesting things while trying to get some order in this chaos.

Friday we were off to town again this time on the 0715 boat and returned on the 1630. We went early so we could have breakfast at a very interesting new restaurant in South Portland near the Mall called Eggspectation. A neat place, but the portions of food were way to big. After that we really went bonkers. We managed to go to 16 stores and buy/charge something in 13 of them. That turned out to be interesting because in the 12th place our credit card, we always used the same one, was questioned as possibly being stolen. The store had to talk to someone and had to make positive picture identification and I had to talk to someone. Just to complicate things I had changed the credit card address to up here so there isn't a delay in getting the bill. Our charges ranged from about $20 to $350, all in a short period of time up here (not our usual stomping grounds) and Wednesday was similar only not as frantic. It of course was a non problem, but we were impressed by the fact the system catches things like this.

Saturday was anniversary day, neither of us can believe it has been 49 years. Anyway we celebrated by Mom washing windows and I mowed the lawn as well as getting ready to do some concrete work and window work. Had light rain and fog all day. We were going to go out to dinner here on the island, but stayed home to watch the Belmont. What a disappointing horse race that was. It was really raining after the race so it was just as well we stayed home. We are going to make due with another night this week.

Today was church day and Father Fred had us rolling in the isles. Interestingly enough he probably does the best job of anyone I have heard of getting the point of his sermon across. Great guy. Tonight we were going to the Renaissance Voices at the 5th Maine, but we ran into Blaine and spent 45 minutes talking to him so since that made us 45 minutes late we continued around the island. A very cold ride in the golf cart.

That seems to be about it for this week's exciting adventures on Peaks.

Love, Mom and Dad

P.S. I forgot to tell you to check out the Loon Cam where researchers are watching a remote camera feed in anticipation of the birth of two loons at a nesting site near Camden.
