Island Update Ending May 25, 2003

Yes, we are back again having arrived on Friday in the rain or at least rain and drizzle off and on. We caught the 1735 ferry to the island since by the time we arrived at the ferry there were already enough cars to fill up the 1630 ferry. On arrival we drove around the island and saw some of the construction that is underway. We will explore more fully this coming week after the long weekend people have departed. The house was ready to go and in good shape except for some dust. Paul had to replace the tub faucets which is fine except the handles are not authentic so we will have to work on that. He also had to replace the faucets under the porch and fix the set tub drain where the house was jacked up.

We stopped to see Marge and Richard before getting to the house. They are fine, but Richard's Alzheimer's is getting worse, but he knew us and was waiting for us to arrive. Actually he looked and acted real fine, better than when we left, but he does repeat and repeat himself. He had also mowed the lawn twice so it look real good. We got most of the stuff under the mattress out of the truck during the lulls in the rain yesterday. We have even walked up to get the paper twice so far (that is 2 for 2). That is because I had forgotten to call to start the paper, I will have to wait until Tuesday to call because they don't work on weekends or holidays. Today we went to church at noon, visited in the Rectory after church (they had a pretty good selection of food today) and then watched the Memorial Day parade that goes from the pier to the cemetery on Central Avenue. We followed along to the cemetery where they had a very nice ceremony. Later in the afternoon Brad came over and he and I along with Richard managed to get the queen sized mattress upstairs. It is not set up yet, but the hard part and I mean hard part is accomplished.

That is about what has happened in the short period of time we have been here this week. More next Sunday.

Love, Dad
