Monday and away we went on the 0815 to pick up a few last minute items. We accomplished all we went out to do and came back on the 1215. Dad managed to build the rod (copper pipe etc.) for the entry to the shower. It turned out quite nice. Now we need a decent curtain instead of that heavy green plastic one that has been there as long as the shower has. Tuesday we were off on the 0815 again to accomplish 2 things -- buy new chairs for the dining room and to pick up the pot luck crew. We accomplished both by getting the chairs (5 of them, as we picked up one yesterday for trial) and delivering them to CBL for shipment to the island in the PM and then going to the airport to pick up the crew at 1030. A stop at Tony's Donuts on our way to Gilbert's for lunch, then a quick tour around Portland before getting in line for the 1415 boat. We made it to the island as did the chairs. Incidentally, they (the chairs) are forest green with natural wood seats and very comfortable as well as rugged. Mom's delicious baked haddock was our supper. Wednesday was a lazy day on the island with some walking and wondering around. It was also blueberry pie day which turned out excellent. We had frozen the blueberries with directions from the lady we bought them from at the Farmer's Market and they were just like fresh, not squishy or anything like that. We even managed to get a crust at Hannigan's which sometimes isn't the case. Liverpool tonight, 1 game which Dad won by 2 points. Thursday we were off to town on the 1000 with the van, on our way to see Lenny, the full size chocolate moose who lives in a delicious chocolate store. We managed to buy some of that stuff before heading off to the wood store where we bought our chairs. Everyone had a ball there and yes everyone bought something. We added a roll around cart with a drawer and 3 plastic bins to store potatoes, onions and something else in the back hall. It gets all that stuff off the floor. We had lunch at the Village Cafe and Dad finally got his fried clams, the first in 2 years. Friday we were off again on the 1000 to go to the Desert of Maine (Mom has been wanting to go there for the longest time), rather interesting. Then to lunch in Brunswick. We were headed for our fish & chip place, but it was packed, with people waiting, so we went to the Sea Dog Brewery across the river where Mom and Dad both thought the fish and chips were better than where we had wanted to eat. We all had a good time there and had a fantastic waitress. Then it was back to catch the 1630 boat. Dad dropped everyone off at the Three Brothers lobster place to get lobsters for supper, which incidentally were delicious, and he went off to park the car and load up a cart with all the stuff we had gotten yesterday. We all managed to doze off and on during the debate. We must be wearing ourselves out because we have only played Liverpool once. Saturday was Queen Mary 2 day and we were all pretty much up for its 0700 arrival. Really big ship and it anchored right in front of the house. The day was taken up with relaxing, going to a small craft fair and checking out the stores on the island. We had home made lobster rolls for lunch and R&R in the afternoon before going to the 5th Maine for the annual Harvest Supper which was very good. We kept a close eye on the Queen all evening until it finally left about 2300 with no fanfare. What a beautiful sight. Back to Sunday again and our usual breakfast (we chose to cook at home rather than go to the Lions Club) and then off to 1000 Mass. Only Merle went with us. Later we and the Hardwicks walked around the island, only the 3rd time for us. Lunch was on the front porch (what beautiful weather we have been having) and just goofing off the rest of the afternoon. We had PM (Popular Mechanics) chicken for supper and with any luck perhaps we will get some Liverpool in tonight. Love, Dad |
