Island Update Ending October 17, 2004

Monday was a beautiful day and we (the pot luck group) were all off to town on the 1000. Dad drove everyone up to the Public Market and then down to the stores in the Old Port before putting the car back in the parking lot. We had lunch at the Port Hole down where the ferry left from many years ago. It was okay, but not up to the old days. Then caught the 1530 back, had supper and did get in a game of Liverpool.

Tuesday turned out to be super windy and showery for half the day, then it started clearing up. We had a lazy day up until we caught the 1545 on our way to the airport for the group to catch a plane around 1900. Mom & Dad caught the 1735 back to Peaks, drove around the island on the way home, watched a most beautiful sunset and had popcorn for supper. Mom watch the Boston/New York game before going to bed. We had a pleasant surprise when we bought ferry tickets, the price is down for the winter.

You undoubtedly can figure out what went on today -- laundry, laundry room window work & shower finishing work. On top of that it was a beautiful day, in fact Mom was on the phone on the front porch in the afternoon and came in because it was so hot. Crisis for Mom at night -- whether to watch the ball game or debate. She watched some of the game, but didn't like what she was seeing so napped during the debate.

Thursday we were off on the 1000 to take Jeanne and Dick's station wagon back to their cottage on Thompson Lake, an hour away. We made a couple stops on the way. Dick took us out to lunch and then back to the 1515 ferry in their brand new red Honda SUV. He then took off to pick up Peter in Manchester.

Friday we were up and at them at 0815. Yes, we slept in since the day started with rain and fog and pretty much stayed that way all day. Mom officially closed the pineapple and back bedrooms for the season and Dad spent the morning (what there was left of it after breakfast and reading the paper) at the desk and the afternoon in the basement. Really exciting day!

Saturday morning Mom reported that it rained like crazy last night, Dad slept through it. The day turned out nice, although rather windy. Mom and Dad both worked toward getting the house ready for us to leave, rather time consuming, but we take it slow.

Sunday again. Up, breakfast, Mass, goodies in rectory after Mass, visit Marge & Richard, Dad responds to the 5th to fix the telephone, more laundry and work in the basement, watch ball game, supper including fixing some to take to Marge and Richard, watch the end of the Dallas game, and now Mom is watching the Red Socks/Yankee game and I haven't heard any screams of anguish yet while I am slaving over the computer which had developed what sounds like a sick fan. It needs to last a couple more weeks.

And that is it from the Northeast where it is beginning to get a bit chilly but not cold yet.

Love, Mom and Dad
