Island Update Ending October 19, 2003

I must be loosing it because here's another correction, this time for last week. We played Liverpool on Sunday and the winners were MOM and Laurie.

It is hard to believe that our season in Maine is about to draw to a close. It is getting to be a bit on the chilly side (not cold), the days are getting shorter and shorter, the sunsets are rapidly moving southward over Portland, the trees are getting rather pretty over on Little Diamond, the leaves are starting to fall, the prices on the ferry have dropped dramatically for the winter and the ferry schedule has changed again to fewer trips with the car ferry. Even the house has remained rather comfortable. This year we haven't had any of those frigid days when even the house is cold, but then we hare leaving a week earlier than usual to beat the end of Daylight Saving Time.

Everyone was up bright and early on Monday except for the host and hostess of this Inn. This was plane catching day so we caught the 1115 and dropped the crew off at the airport. The government has these airports so restricted there is no longer any way to spend time with the people leaving. Anyway we went and had Chinese at our favorite place for the last time this season and caught the 1415 back to Peaks. We caught up on the Soap (I snoozed a bit), Mom coached the Red Sox to a win and here we are at midnight ready for bed and getting mentally prepared to catch the 0615 in the morning.

Yes, by gosh, we did catch the 0615 Tuesday. We were at Maine Cardiology around 0700 for a 0730 appointment and were finished about 1000. I still don't stress tests (the treadmill part), but It wasn't too bad and I did survive. I guess it turned out okay, but who knows until I hear from the doctor. We then went to get another golf cart key (I don't know where I lost mine) and looked over the new Club Car show room and garage here in Portland. They are getting some real neat vehicles. Caught the 1215 back and sort of collapsed although Mom did laundry and I started putting things away. I put the old golf cart under the porch, but we asked Greg at the golf cart place about Par Cars and he said the best thing to do with it is take it on the ferry and push it overboard on the way to Portland.

Wednesday brought us the storm you guys had down Washington way. We had 1.85" of rain with winds consistently running 20 to 40 MPH all day long with gusts up to 47. We even lost power for about 3 hours first thing this morning. We figured we couldn't make coffee we so we stayed in bed until about 0900 when the power can back on. We did go look at the waves which were pretty neat on the backshore. We spent the day sort of getting ready to leave.

The rest of the week has consisted on getting things packed up and the house ready to close both inside and out. Actually we are doing quite well so far, having done lots of things we usually put off until the last minute. Today we went over and pick up a few things and brought the car back. I have even put quite a few things in it already. So far I think we are running ahead of the power curve. Friday Dong stopped by for a cup of coffee before getting to work and then on Saturday he brought a whole bag of egg rolls his sister made for us. They are so delicious. We finished them at supper this very night. Our only big problem so far has been to keep the crows from swiping all the walnuts. We have managed to save some, but I think they are getting more than we are.

Yes, we are still departing Thursday the 23rd. Mike has arranged for us to stay at the B&B near the farm and we are having a lamb dinner with Linda and Jan that night. We will be leaving for Fairfax on the 24th. We won't decide on the route we will take home until we leave Mike's.

That is it for this week.

Love, Mom and Dad
