Island Update Ending October 24, 2004

Monday night proved to be a cold windy one with the door to the upstairs porch closed in our room and an extra blanket on the bed. Nice sunny day though. We headed to town on the 1245 for a Dad doctor's appointment, nothing serious, just aggravating. We also ran errands, as we always do, and even thought the doctor's appointment was out near the airport at 1615 we still caught the 1735 boat back. It is so easy to do things up here once one gets off the island. No, Mom did not stay up for the whole ball game last night.

Another cold and blustery day on Tuesday. Fortunately the winds are now coming from the East so the house stays quite comfortable. We pretty much puttered around inside all day. Beautiful evening with the lights from Portland shinning brightly. Wednesday was another bright sunshiny day, but cold. Mom who wraps up in an afghan all the time was reading on the front porch this afternoon claiming it was delightful. We were still in a wind down mode today. Bonus during supper tonight though. About 1830 beautiful fireworks in Portland right where they are for July 4th. We have no idea why. And the crowning glory for Mom was the Red Socks winning!

We took Thursday off. For the first time this season Mom & Dad just wondered aimlessly around Portland on foot. Yes, we were after a few things, but we also hit a number of stores we hadn't been to this year. We did lots of walking and just naturally had a good time. Tired by nightfall, however.

What luck we have been having this year. Friday was another nice day although on the cold side. Mom and Dad just worked on getting things finished and ready to go. We did go up the Cockeyed Gull for breakfast in the morning. That was fun. I also lost another front tooth cap tonight so now there are 2 missing. I have already made a dental appointment for when we get back.

Saturday Dong came by in the morning with a big bowl of Pad Tai from his sister. What a great way to start the day out. Dad caught the 1245 to go get the car and run some errands and then caught the 1515 back. We have had an easterly wind for a few days so we drove around the island in the hopes there would be some good waves. They were okay, but nothing like we usually see at least once during the year.

Sunday morning was the usual routine except no bacon and eggs because we ran out. The rest of the day was consumed with getting ready to leave. Most of the stuff is off the porches, the golf cart is parked in the basement and the underneath part of the porch is all closed in, and the van is pretty much loaded with everything except clothes. It seems as though we have things pretty much under control, but we all know that tomorrow will probably be a frantic day. Why? Because it always is no matter what.

Our schedule is as follows:

TuesdayDepart Peaks and go to Bristol to visit Dottie
WednesdayAt Dottie's in Bristol
ThursdayLeave Bristol and go see Mike
FridayLeave for Fairfax

Baring the unforeseen we will be home on Friday, probably latish.

Love, Mom and Dad
