Island Update Ending October 3, 2004

Yes, October is here already. We have had a few showers to start the month off, always at night, and some cold mornings like Sunday when it was 45. But the days, although sometimes crisp, have really been nice. This is the way we want October to be. Monday we were up bright and early to go for a walk before breakfast. Dad varnished some pieces for the shower, not really varnish, but polyurethane, plus worked on the laundry windows which I fear will not get completed this year and did some work at the 5th. Mom went wild cooking cookies for when pot luck comes next week. Oh yes, 2 huge cruise ships come in, one alongside State Pier and the other anchored out front. They used the CBL people ferrys to transport people ashore. We did watch half the football game, but that was about the best we could do. Tuesday we were off on the 0815 for a doctor's appointment then some quick shopping, pickup the monogrammed robes and back on the 1045 all in a light to medium rain. When we got home we decided to have the breakfast we missed on Sunday. The rest of the day was just doing stuff around the house. Pizza for supper.

Wednesday finally arrived so Mom could get her hair cut. We were off on the 1115, stopped at the Public Market and Farmer's Market on our way. Then it was off to lunch at "Governor's" a rather interesting place where they give you too much to eat, followed by a quick trip to the Coast Guard Exchange. On our way back to the boat we went looking for a place on Congress Street which we found, but it wasn't open. It is the place where Mom got the glass ball at the Cumberland Craft Fair. I realized that our robes are not monogrammed, but Mom doesn't think they need to be. Oh well. Popcorn for supper and of to bed at 2230.

Thursday was a Beano afternoon, hosted by Mom. Dad went to stay with Richard, this time for over 3 hours. Dad did hear a couple new things from Richard, plus Blaine from next door also went over so that was a help. In the evening Dad went to a 5th Maine Board meeting, but he got home in time for the debate.

Friday was the usual hectic day. Mom did loads of laundry and washed floors. She has decided that she needs a staff. As for Dad he worked on the shower some more, a very slow process. We did go for a walk in the afternoon and in the process ran across Dong. He has been tooting each morning and night as he drives by, but we didn't know where he was working. Supper and TV and that was about it for the day -- dense fog tonight. Oh yes, Dad's front tooth is gone again.

Saturday we were up and off for a walk followed by breakfast and the newspaper. That pretty much shot the morning. Dad puttered with the shower (no, it won't be done before company arrives on Tuesday), mowed some lawn (front and part of the parking lot), docent at the 5th in the afternoon (3 hours) and finished the parking lot when he got home. Mom was the paper pusher today which is rather unusual, plus she made dinner for Marge and Richard which we duly delivered.

Sundays mornings are always shot what with breakfast, 1000 Mass and goodies after Mass. Mom worked on getting the house all shipshape and I must say she is doing her usual great job. As for Dad he did make some real headway on the shower, but it is a very slow process. It is getting to look rather nice. He did finish mowing the lawn, it really needed it and he had to clean up the mess he has made of the basement. We both watched football off and on.

That is about it from up in Maine. We are supposed to have frost Tuesday night. As long as the wind stays light and the days are reasonably nice that is all we need for the month of October.

Love, Dad
