We start out the week with Labor Day so I guess the summer season on Peaks Island as well as most places is over. Since this was a holiday we had to walk on our own, that is, the four oldest of those persons in the house. Anyway, it was a very pleasant walk. Dad did Docent duty from 1100-1300 and took Dick along to work on some fix-up tasks. We had lobster tonight. While the ladies cleaned up after supper Tim went up to get sundaes, but the ice cream store was closed so he went over the Inn's Pub and got 6 of their deserts. Needless to say we ended up stuffed, but they did taste good. Liverpool tonight and Dad won again. Tuesday turned out to be rather routine except that Diane and Tim were leaving so that produced activity not usually encountered. They got the car up early for the 1000 ferry which turned out to be a good idea since 2 trucks up in line behind them. The rest of the day was at a rather slow pace with laundry being done and as well as some miscellaneous items at the 5th. Uncle Dick and Dad did see Dong and amazingly helped him solve some problems with windows in a house he was working on. Liverpool again, this time with only 4 players - winners were Aunt Jeanne and Dad. On Wednesday we were all off to town on the 1000 boat, Island Romance. We have a new schedule. We gave Millie a ride and dropped her off at her hairdresser, then went to the Market. Aunt Jeanne and Uncle Dick wondered off shopping while Mom and Dad headed off to see Dr. Rosenblatt (Dad's heart guy). We were just about to his office near Maine Med when Mom noticed on the appointment slip that their office had moved to South Portland, not too far from the Mall. With a handy map and some lucky turns plus a superb navigator flying copilot we weren't too late. I do have to go back in a couple weeks for a stress test and how I hate those things. We managed to get back to the city to meet Jeanne and Dick for lunch at Rosie's. 1430 boat back to the Island where we promptly collapsed. No cards tonight! Not much happened Thursday morning. Mom and Dad skipped walking with Denise because Aunt Jeanne and Uncle Dick were leaving. We could have walked since they ended up catching the 1445 boat. Dong came by for a visit at noon. I don't think he really wanted to work today. We decided to take the day off, so to speak, on Friday. We had breakfast and went for a walk as we plan to do every day getting in shape for Dad's stress test. At least his legs should the in shape. Mom got the final curtain hung in the dinning room and Dad did such things as paint and repair misc. things. The highlight of the day was around noon when the Blue Angels flew by right in front of the house 3 times. Nothing fancy just formation flying, all seven of them. Seems they were doing a photo shoot over Portland Head Light. We were off for a walk first thing Saturday morning followed by breakfast. Dong showed up with a bag of egg rolls his sister had made. They are soooo good so we ate a couple of those for breakfast too. The rest of the day Mom did laundry (what else is new) and cooked and Dad removed 4 of the 8 storm windows we are replacing. This is also a good time to paint the window frames, putty where necessary and paint them. I don't think the living room windows have been touched in the past 25 to 30 years. This will also make washing the front windows much easier for which Mom is thankful since you all know what she thinks about having those windows dirty! Watched tennis at night -- dullsville. And here we are to Sunday again. We were up fairly early, had breakfast (bacon and eggs but no potatoes), church at 1000 (new winter schedule) followed by coffee and donuts, then Dad was to Docent at the 5th and Mom went to the dedication of the PEAKS POTTY just off the parking lot. There was lots of other activity up there since they we raising money for the hurricane victims. Dad missed all that. We did see the end of the Redskins game which is probably be the only game we will see them play before we get back to Virginia. Just an added note I forgot last week. If any of you are interested in buying the MacMansion (build by the Texas lady) on the back shore it is up for sale again at $2.3 million. Love, Mom and Dad |
