Island Update Ending September 12, 2004

The week started out with Mom, Dad, Aunt Jeanne & Uncle Dick off for a walk followed by breakfast of bacon & eggs. Not the right day, but it was a holiday and Sunday we ate at the Lions Club. Dad played docent for 4 hours in the afternoon. Diane Hawes was off to town and Tim finished rebuilding the stone post by the front walk. I guess everyone else did whatever. Lobster for supper complete with corn on the cob, salad and dunking bread in oil brought back from the Stonewall Kitchen. A six handed game of Liverpool topped off the day.

Tuesday we were off walking again in the morning, actually midmorning. We saw Tim and Diane off on the 1000 ferry, then we had pastry and coffee at the coffee shop on the hill -- up from the ferry. The walking came after they had left. Later we drove around the island with the intention of seeing a stone sculpture done by Tim and Uncle Dick on the back shore. Dad and Dick finally made it up to the 5th to work on a refrigerator, didn't finish for lack of proper tools. Liverpool tonight - Mom won.

Wednesday - Dad & Uncle Dick went up to the 5th to finish up the refrigerator work after Dad got the needed tool. Tim and Diane showed up on the 1215 boat for lunch and to do their laundry. The reasoning here is much too complicated to relate. Anyway, they were off again on the 1700 boat and we settled into a routine day with Pizza for supper and sleeping in front of the TV.

Thursday turned out to be a super rainy day with winds from the East to northeast so the patterns on the water were quite interesting. Aunt Jeanne and Uncle Dick left in the rain which was okay because they had their car. We just did house chores and Dad attended a Board of Directors meeting at the 5th Maine at night.

We just worked around the house on Friday. Mom called Aunt Jeanne only to find out they will not be here next week as they had planned. This kind of fouls up our plans since we have been working around visits trying to make plans for ourselves. Other than that, a pretty quiet day.

Saturday already and Mom did tons of laundry today. As for Dad he spent some time at the 5th correcting some fire inspection deficiencies. After some purchases next week he hopes to have all the deficiencies corrected by the fire department's target date. Nothing serious, but time consuming and one requires Paul, the plumber, to add a sprinkler system over the furnace. Dad has also pretty much figured out how to finish off the shower. He did in fact purchase most of the material needed plus he found some old wood under the 5th which will help out. Now all he needs is the time and inclination.

Unlike most Sundays, Mass was at 1000. The summer season of 2 masses is over. This caused us to have breakfast early, but that was OK. We also had to walk up to the store for a newspaper as our new paper man failed to deliver our paper. We thought that problem had been solved, oh well! The big trash pickup is this coming week so Mom and Dad managed to get the old couch in the basement out to the side of the street. Dad had worked out a system with the dolly on one end and the wagon at the other end to roll it out. It worked quite well until the end when it tipped over. A couple walking by came to our rescue and we got it the rest of the way. Mom worked in the garden and on curtains and Dad hauled some more stuff out to the street plus he went to the 5th to clean out stuff under the porch. He also wanted to bring home the old Plexiglas since he has a better place to store it and the car was available to transport it.

And that's the way it was here on Peaks Island this past week.

Love, Mom and Dad
