Imagine, the week started with a Monday and a walk with Denise and considering the group we had today it was an island history walk also. Dad did manage to get the rest of the old storm windows off, less one that has to be reached with a ladder. We needed to get them out for the big trash pickup. This was Seniors Pot Lunch day with a record number in attendance and lots of food. Mom and Millie went over to see Marge and Dad cleaned up part of under the porch. Quite warm today in fact sweating warm, like 88. Big lunch means small supper so we had a delicious meal of popcorn. Tuesday Dong showed up early, like 0800, while we were having breakfast and wanted to swap 10 minutes of Dad's time with an hour of his. What a good deal that is. Anyway, Dad went and helped him put in a window which has not heavy, but very awkward in length. As is normal with his work it fit perfectly. Big events of the day were Mom washed the kitchen curtains and windows. She only did the inside of the windows since we haven't figured out how to levitate to do the outside. As for Dad he worked on the living room windows, puttying and scraping. He also had some more stuff to put out for the big trash pickup, but they have been very organized this year and have already picked up what we put out as well as blocks around so he was too late. Dong said he would take it to the dump later in the week, which he did. By Wednesday we were supposed to let Aunt Jeanne and Uncle Dick know if we could spend a few days with them up at the lake. We decided we would have to take a rain check (appropriate since it is forecast to rain off and on for the next 4 days) because we have too much to do plus Mom got tickets to the Sea Dogs last play off game of the season tonight. I called them and left a message which they never got. Not quite true since they got the first word. One must realize that they tend to bring things up here that don't work in Glen Burnie and expect them to work here. I won't swear that was the case this time. Anyway, that missed call set Aunt Jeanne to worrying about us, but we got that straightened out later. As for us we caught the 1115. After much shopping, including some things we didn't go for after and Chinese for lunch we headed for the 1800 game. The weather was perfect, but unfortunately the Sea Dogs lost. We caught the 2230 boat back with our load of stuff. The weather was still nice and we date outside on the new boat, whatever its name is. The weather man was right and Thursday we woke up to rain and fog, but they both quit for most of the day, but it remained extremely humid. Yes, we did manage to get our walk in. Dad spent lots of time trying to figure out the Toyota's license plates. We now have up to date plates which are no longer assigned to the van and expired plates (URI-55) which are assigned. The DMV did make a notation in the computer so if we are stopped, not likely on the island, someone may be able to figure it out. Other than that we didn't accomplish too much, still recovering from yesterday's long day, or whatever. The day ended with a slow moving thunderstorm. We watched it from the upstairs porch -- kind of neat. It was very foggy, couldn't see Portland, when we went to bed. On Friday we woke up to another foggy humid day. Everything is just plain wet and Dad is frustrated because he can't do any window painting, which he wants to get done for the new storms arrive. We were going to catch the 1000 ferry, but Dong showed up so we ended up catching the 1115. We got a huge planter, 16"dia, 14" tall for the top of the burial mound. It barely fit in the basket to come back. We finally got the Cross Jewelers to get Mom's diamond reset since the ring was worn down to almost nothing. They had to cut it off. We got that all taken care of and then some and caught the 1415 back. We had fresh baked haddock for supper and we both agreed it was even better than usual. At about 2145 the fire alarm went off up stairs for no apparent reason other than Dad figures it was about 30 years old. He just happened to have a new one in the basement so that is now installed and the other one has been trashed. The house just past the Flynns with the garden was advertised in the paper today for $1.35 million. He doesn't expect to get it, but he figures he will make if available if someone should happen to want it. Saturday started out with dense fog and rain again, then heavy rain off and on until finally late in the day the sun tried to come out. Not much activity today. We did make some scones, Mom visited Marge with a plate of the scones and Dad dismantled the burial mound sprinkle and put the new giant pot it its place. It looked big by itself, but now it looks smaller. We made it to Sunday and woke up to an overcast day that quickly turned part cloudy or as you prefer partly sunny. Anyway, a very nice day. We had our usual breakfast, 1000 Mass, a big spread of food at the Rectory after Mass (this is usual now that there is just one mass and the "people from away" have left), visited Marge and Richard on the way home and then just did miscellaneous things the rest of the day including watching some football. Now it is time for bed!!! Love, Mom and Dad |
