Island Update Ending September 2, 2007

Late again! What can we say? The week started with beautiful weather. Mom walked with Denise, but Dad stayed home and painted front porch window trim. We had a mystery tea after lunch on the back shore. They are fun and you often get to see houses you haven't seen before. Dad is usually the only male to go. Later on we went out to dinner at the cockeyed Gull - good food. The weather continued good on Tuesday. Dong called to say don't eat breakfast because he was on the boat with something. He showed up with egg rolls - good as always. We all chatted half the morning and later talked business about repairs to the 5th Maine. Mom kept getting involved with visitors stopping by. Just one of those days.

Wednesday we were off again with Denise and the seniors to see "Leading Ladies" at the Arundel Barn Playhouse south of here. Denise takes us in a city van, in this case 10 of us. The play was a riot and we really enjoyed it. Planned to attend a talk on island memories at the 5th, but we couldn't get the lights to work on the golf cart. Heard it was a very good talk.

By Thursday we had to make up for lost time by taking a trip to the big city shopping. On top of that Mom had missed her trip to the farmers market. We managed to get almost everything plus things we didn't go after. We did get a new light switch for the golf cart. We only took one cart in with us and came back with it full to overflowing. The evening was taken up by the 5th Maine Regiment Museum Annual Meeting followed by the monthly meeting. Mom chose not to go even though they served wine and cheese. Smart move, it turned out to be a very long boring meeting.

On Friday it was super foggy when we woke up, but the day got better and by night time it was clear as a bell and chilly. We got the house picked up, fixed the lights in the golf card and Dad spent some time with Dong at the 5th. Tim and Diane arrived on the 1415 all fired up as usual. They brought Haddock for supper along with corn on the cob so we had a great feast. Liverpool in the evening - Tim won.

Saturday was just a peaceful day. Dad was docent a the 5th in the afternoon plus he tried to solve some repair problems. Later Mom and Dad went to an engagement party. We know the future bride and her family. She is 5'2" tall and he is 6'9". Quite a pair. It was interesting and pretty good, but we really didn't know too many people. Aunt Jeanne and Uncle Dick arrived in the afternoon. Liverpool in the evening, very long with 6 people. Aunt Jeanne won. Golly, this was also the first day of September. Where has the summer gone?

Sunday was the last day of 2 Masses - guess summer is really over. We all went to 0815 and then to breakfast at the Lions Club. We thought it was going to be rather cold, but it turned out to be delightful eating outside. Mom made blueberry pie in the afternoon while Dad and Uncle Dick got a new halyard up so the new flag is now flying at long last,. Aunt Jeanne's spaghetti for supper followed by another game of Liverpool. Mom won - YEH!! The day ended by our seeing flashing blue lights all over the place in the harbor as well as a helicopter operating there. It seems that a person fell off the Casablanca (the party boat you see near Gilberts). He is a Coast Guard petty officer and so far has not been found.

Love, Mom and Dad
