Sunday we went to bed in the fog and come Monday morning we were still in the
fog. We puttered around the house all day although we did go for a walk.
When I went to go down in the basement this morning I found little gray paw
prints all over the green basement stairs. Oscar wanted in yesterday and
evidently tried to come up from the basement right after I painted the floor. The
doors were open for circulation. Mom didn't see the humor in this. Tuesday we
started out with fog again and pouring rain which amounted to 1". Since it was
a crummy morning, I made coffee (as I always do regardless of the weather)
and we sat on the upstairs porch watching the rain & fog. That was about the
excitement of the day.
Wednesday was haircut day for Mom so we caught the 1000 to run errands
before meeting Aunt Jeanne and Uncle Dick at the hair dresser's. After that
it was lunch at a fairly fancy marina restaurant in south Portland. Nice
atmosphere. Then it was back home on the 1630 boat. We didn't quite complete all
our errands, but we came close. Busy day on Thursday. We caught the 0715
boat, breakfast at the Freeport Cafe (still a nice place), stopped at L.L.Bean
and then off to Pemaquid Light for a visit. That is the light on the Maine
quarter which if you haven't heard has been recalled because it jambs coin
operated machines. It was a fun trip. On the way back we stopped at the locally
famous Moody's Diner in Waldoboro. We had fish & chips which were probably the
worst we have ever had anywhere. We figure they were commercially prepared,
frozen and delivered by truck or whatever. Anyway they were a poor excuse for
fish and chips, but we should have known to pick a diner type food. Then it
was off to the commissary on our way home to catch the 1735 boat. Long day?
Yes!
On Friday we were laying in bed watching Good Morning America when the
phone rang. It was Dong. He was on the front door step to get some coffee.
We got up, made coffee and he stayed about an hour. We really enjoy him.
Not much else happening until night when we got a couple down down pours (.6")
from your hurricane. It passed way to the west of us. We did go check out the
waves which were pretty good, but not spectacular.
Saturday Dong showed up with a surprise, a big container of egg rolls.
They are so good! We ate them for breakfast, lunch and dinner and still have
3 left. Mom baked cookies all morning and I worked on the kitchen window
nearest the stove to make it seal right so hopefully when the cold west wind
starts blowing we won't be quite as cold form that window. Sunday was Mass and a
late breakfast around noon like we did last weekend. I painted the white trim
around the kitchen window as well as putting a second coat of black paint on
the window frames. Later this week I will put things back together again. For
now I have a big piece of Plexiglas in place of the window. I also managed
to paint the trim on the back porch; railing, pillars, etc. I've still got
lots of things to do and rapidly running out of time.
As for next week we will be in Bristol starting Monday visiting Aunt
Dottie and will be back here sometime Wednesday. And that is about it for this
week.
Love, Mom and Dad
