Island Update Ending September 25, 2005

The week started off with a beautiful day. We were up early and ready for our morning walk. Later Dad mowed most of the lawn and did some painting while Mom and the ladies visited Marge. At various times during the day Dong appeared. This tends to modify our plans a bit.

Tuesday started off overcast so after breakfast we ventured off to the Post Office, then walked home, but continued on since we really hadn't gone very far. As you might expect we had walked a pretty fair distance when it started to rain, rather hard at times, sooooo we went walking in the rain. This was floor washing day for Mom and Dad just got caught up and misc. tasks he had been putting off. He really has to get some painting done, but couldn't because it was way too humid. By supper the kitchen still had wet wax on the floor so we had no choice but to go to the Cockeyed Gull for supper. Good food they have.

Wednesday we managed to get off on the 0615 boat for Dad's stress test scheduled for 0730. We did set the alarm just to make sure. We will have to wait to hear from Dr. Rosenblatt as to how it went. There were a few little glitches, but nothing that seemed to registered as problems. That is Dad's assessment, Mom thinks otherwise. Anyway, we shall see. Hunger had set in so off we went for breakfast, followed by some shopping and our usual Wednesday trip to the Farmers Market. We were really after some mums which we managed to get and bring home. We caught the 1415 people ferry since the car ferry only makes the first 3 morning runs on Wednesday. It has been a long day so we collapsed when we got home, at least Dad did. Mom did some vacuuming. At night the Peaks Island Music Association put on an unscheduled repeat of a show they did this summer. It wasn't quite what we had expected, kind of spiritual, but very god. They really do a good job.

With Thursday's arrival it is HAPPY FALL, or at least it will be later this afternoon. Beautiful weather again today. We were off on the 0815 to pick up Diane and Jennifer. We bought fish and shrimp on the way back for supper. Mom and Dad caught the 1015 back to the island, but D&J stayed behind and caught the 1415. Baked haddock for supper with shrimp before and some wine. We are just roughing it here on Peaks.

Another beautiful day on Friday although it started off cloudy and did sprinkle a bit during the morning. Diane and Jennifer made the trek around the island. Mom worked in the garden, Dad worked on one of the pillars and a few other extraneous tasks. He is fighting a cold so sort of took it easy. Tonight D&J took us out to dinner at the Cockeyed Gull, very good, and then it was home to 2 games of Liverpool. Winners were Dad and Jennifer.

Saturday turned out to be another beautiful day, but a bit on the cold side. We had the heat on for breakfast, unfortunately by night fall we discovered the furnace had quit working. Didn't to much today, Dad is still fighting a cold of all things. It was nice and bright and warm on the upstairs porch so Mom and Dad camped our there while D&J were in town. They brought back lobster for supper which was great. One game of Liverpool at night which Dad won. Then we wrapped up in afghans since the house does get a bit chilly at night when the furnace doesn't work.

Ah yes, Sunday again. Breakfast by Dad followed by 1000 Mass. Then we had another meal in the Rectory after Mass and of course eventually lunch before we had to catch the 1445 boat to get to the airport. On the way to the airport Diane wanted to stop at Planet Dog a rather interesting store devoted to as you might expect dogs. We dropped D&J off at the airport and assume they made it back to Fairfax, Since we are now both battling colds we caught the 1630 back to the island. Paul had been here to fix the furnace, but after a couple hours work he determined it needs a new transformer which he can't get until tomorrow. He offered to give us electric heaters, but we decided it wouldn't be too cold tonight and besides it is usually quite warm in bed. Whether we agree with that in the morning is something else.

And that is about it for this week. It is beginning to look like next week will be a very busy week assuming our colds are better. We already have a tentative schedule that could choke a horse.

Love, Mom and Dad
