There is not much left of September, but the past week has been just beautiful. It has been a relatively peaceful week also. On Monday Mom's Beano group got together so I went over and visited Richard for the 3 hours they were gone. He even told me some stories I hadn't heard before. Tuesday we were off on the 1115 boat to pick up prescriptions, take back curtains and take white terry robes to be monogrammed. Then we just wondered down the road to Saco looking for a place to eat. Found one, but the meal was a bit skimpy (very unusual for up here) so we stopped for a Dairy Queen on the way back. We also visited the "Mulberry Cottage" which we go by a lot, but hadn't stopped this year. It has changed considerably, but we bought a couple things and then caught the 1630 home where we had popcorn for supper. On Wednesday Dad actually got some work done on the shower while Mom did laundry (never ends) and worked in the garden. Other than a walk to the 5th that was the extent of our day. Really enjoyed it. We caught the 0815 boat on Thursday and went to Freeport, commissary, lunch at our fish&chips place in Brunswick and back on the 1630 boat -- popcorn for supper. We were off again on the 1115 on Friday to meet Aunt Jeanne and Uncle Dick for lunch at Rosie's. Dad's first calzone in 2 years. After a little poking around in the Old Port it was off to the Bus/Train station to drop off Jeanne and Dick. They took the bus to Boston for a flight back to Baltimore. They should be back in a couple weeks or so. We caught the 1630 boat with their car after filling it with the stuff we bought yesterday that was left in the van. What a neat way to get things down to the island. Saturday we were up bright and early to go for a walk before breakfast. Dad finally got around to working on the shower just before lunch. Well, we did have to eat breakfast, drink coffee (outside enjoying our beautiful weather while we have it) and read the paper. This afternoon we even walked the beach. Dad did get some work accomplished, but still has quite a way to go. He seems to try and make it as complicated as possible. And here we are back to Sunday again. We had a mini breakfast this morning since we knew they were having a brunch in the rectory after 1000 Mass for Father Fred's birthday. It was very good. After, we drove by the 5th to replace a lightbulb and then around the island. We also studied on the stone wall being built at the yellow house on Pleasant Avenue. We may talk to him about doing some stone work for us. Dad did some more work on the shower and on the arms of the chairs on the porch he didn't do earlier this year. He needs three good days to stain (done today) and put 2 coats of varnish on. By his own account, if the weather holds and no unforeseen things happen he will have the shower looking pretty good(not completed) by the time the pot luck group arrives. And there we have it for another week. We would love it if this weather would hold for another month, but that is a bit much to ask. We know one of these days it is going to turn cold.
