Island Update Ending September 28, 2003

A busy week, but not too much to report.  Monday we went to Bristol to see Aunt Dottie.  She is fine.  On the way we looked for a curtain store we saw advertised which we think is in Saco, but we couldn't find it.  From there we went to The Old House Parts Co. to check on a stair rail I saw when Diane and I went looking for a newel post.  It was gone so I guess it had been sold.  I should have gone right back when I decided it was right for the 5th, but I didn't.  Oh well.  I am also looking for a door for the 5th.  I left them a picture, but we haven't heard anything.  We left Aunt Dottie's on Wednesday, after the soap, stopping at the Fuller Brush store in Kittery and a couple other stores.  We were running kind of late so we stopped at Gilbert's to eat and with our recent luck it wasn't too good.  They aren't nearly as good as they were years ago.  We caught the 1930 back.

Thursday we were off to see Dr. Rosenblatt, my heart guy.  He seemed to think things looked okay, but he wants me to have another Stress Echocardiogram before we go home.  This is the test where they found the blockage last year.  We don't know when that will be.  Anyway, after that we ran errands (what else is new) and had a very good lunch at Governor's.  Back on the 1630 boat.  I checked out how Dong did with the storm windows at the 5th and brought home 3 sets of windows for repair and paint.  Friday we sort of goofed off in the fog and rain.  Mom baked for Sunday's snacks after Mass.  I managed to put the kitchen window back in after it stopped raining so I am almost done with that job.  Just some minor painting and the screen. That should be a big improvement when the cold and wind arrive because it is quite solid now.

Saturday was another foggy day although the sun came out for an hour or so and we did see Portland for a short period.  Mom baked a rather complicated apple cake which turned out to be delicious.  This was for Sunday.  Dong spent about an hour or so chatting with us while Mom was working on the cake.  He doesn't quite approve of the way I fixed the window, but he finally decided it wasn't too bad.  He was back at supper time to store some material under the porch which he doesn't want to take back to the mainland just yet.  That is fine because I always end up with some wood.  I worked on windows from the 5th.  We suddenly realized that we are running out of time and have too many things to accomplish before DST ends.  Our plan is to leave before that happens.

Mom volunteered to take care of the goodies and coffee after Mass today and everything turned out just fine.  There was even a birthday cake for Father Fred, a Boston Cream pie which evidently is his favorite, brought in.  Anyway, there was a good crowd and everything was devoured!  Today we got to watch the Red Skins, but we both slept through most of the second half.  As for the weather it has been foggy and rainy all day long.  This is 3 days in a row now.

And that brings us to the end of another week of which there are not very many left.
