Island Update Ending September 5, 2004

Golly, the first week in September is over already, not a whole week, but close enough to it. Mom started the week by vacuuming and cleaning the better part of Monday while Dad was docent at the 5th for a couple hours. He also worked on repairing shades with the hot glue gun and managed to do 7 with an estimated 5 to go. We are hoping this will work for at least a year or two.

Tuesday we were up early, but didn't leave for Dad to see Dr. Rosenblatt until the 1045 boat for a 1310 appointment. Worked out well. Dad got a new battery for his watch and some money at the bank. We also ran some errands and just wondered a bit for the first time this summer. The doctor's appointment went just fine. He could find no obvious problems and gave Dad a clean bill of health. By then we were starving and after being lectured, so to speak, on what is good and what is bad to eat we went and had Chinese, at our favorite place, and again for the first time this summer. More errands and wondering and finally the 1735 boat home.

Wednesday was another busy day. Dad caught the 0715 boat to pick up mortar for Tim Hawes to fix our stone post. He also picked up stuff to finish off the shower and concrete for where the laundry room wall was raised last year. Mom came in on the 0945 and we were off to the Farmer's Market etc. After that we spent the rest of the day running all over the place picking up supplies, both repair and food. We tried to take advantage of bringing the car down to the island. Dairy Queen for lunch, egg sandwich for supper and eventually popcorn just like last night. Yes, we had kind of had it by the time the boat left so we were happy to drive on and drive off and drive home. We got most of the stuff out of the van, just a bunch of wood left and the concrete.

Thursday - Dad spent the morning mowing the lawn (it is growing like a weed) and unloading the car, wood and 80 pound bags of concrete. Mom was busy getting ready for the beano group which had a few extras today. Marge even came down while Dad visited with Richard. They must have had a good time because Marge was gone for 3 hours.

Friday, Mom gardened and laundered some more while Dad worked on shades and fix some things at the 5th Maine. We even got up late. This evening, the 1915 boat brought in Tim and Diane with chowder and haddock for supper followed by our first game of Liverpool in a long long time. These games can sometimes be pretty wild with Diane playing.

Saturday was really pretty peaceful, at least to start with. Tim studied on the post he is going to repair. Aunt Jeanie and Uncle Dick arrived late in the afternoon with supper, spaghetti with home made sauce made with chourico, Portuguese sausage. Aunt Jeanne brought some plain chourico to fry up for Dad. Six handed Liverpool after supper, a very different game with 6 people.

Sunday it was 0815 Mass as usual, I think we have only gone at 1000 once this summer. It was a very busy time getting 6 adults all organized and ready for that. After Mass we were off to the Lions Club for their breakfast. Even though we didn't arrive at 0800, when Dad wanted to arrive, they still had potatoes, hooray!! Since then it has been pretty much everyone for themselves. Tim did dismantle the upper part of the post so it is a bit sick looking right now. Tonight Tim and Diane took us all up to the Inn on Peaks Island for dinner. This is the old Fish Grill or whatever it used to be called at the new inn at the top of the hill from the ferry. It has now been open for a couple or three weeks and we found it quite good. It is not really Dad's kind of food, but he really liked what he had. Now we are all stuffed, tired and although perhaps not ready for bed, we may fall asleep watching TV, talking, playing cards or whatever.

That is it for now,

Love, Mom and Dad

PS The parking lot looks rather full with 3 cars and a golf cart in it.
