Here we are on Monday when Mom, Diane Hawes and Aunt Jeanne wandering off to
town while the rest of us hang around the island. We had lobster for supper
followed by 6 handed Liverpool that lasted until 0030. Much too late for most
of us. It was right cool this morning so on went the furnace! Tuesday Diane
and Tim tried to catch the 1115 but the line went past the Post Office. They
finally got off the island about 1330 on an extra car ferry that ran during
the normal break. We didn't really expect such a crowd the day after Labor Day.
After lunch Uncle Dick and I went up & worked at the 5th. We are trying to
clean out an old storeroom to make it into a better storeroom plus clean out
under the building. Tonight we all kind of collapsed.
Wednesday was a nice day, but on the cool side. Uncle Dick and I
spent the bulk of the day at the 5th working on the storeroom and cleaning under
the building. What a mess. I think we finally have things figured out and
hopefully will finish up tomorrow. Mom and Aunt Jeanne did laundry (exciting)
and some baking. They walked up to the 5th in the PM with some brownies and
corn bread for Dong. Thursday started out about 0300 with rain, later thunder
and we ended up with 1.56 inches of rain. Fog set in at night. Except for
lunch, Uncle Dick and I spent all day working at the 5th. By the time we got
home, about 1730, we were pooped. In the evening Mom and Aunt Jeanne went and
played Beano at Marge's (Mom didn't win) and most of the time they were gone Uncle
Dick and I slept while "watching" TV.
On Friday Aunt Jeanne and Uncle Dick departed on the 1000 boat. It is
so quiet and peaceful around here we don't know what to do. I spent some
time at the 5th and Mom & I went to check a stone wall being built at a friend's
house. Just one of a bunch of ideas we have. I guess now I will have to get
to work on that list of things to do to this house. Saturday was a beautiful
day. Mom did laundry and worked in the garden. I just puttered all day and
we both watched some tennis during the day and the women's finals at night.
When we woke up on Sunday we really didn't want our usual big Sunday
breakfast so we decided to have it for supper and have our normal lightish
breakfast followed by a trip around the island in the golf cart to see the waves
from the Bermuda hurricane. The waves didn't amount to much, but we heard
after Mass (Mass is now at 1000) that they were pretty good yesterday. Next week
is big trash week where we can put out most anything other than building
materials. We managed to get quite a pile this year plus I added some to it from
the 5th. Reasoning here is we have a wedding there next Saturday and who knows
how long it will take them to pick up all the trash (usually more than a
week) and the place wouldn't look too good with a pile of trash out front.
Yes, this was the usual busy week, but now we have a break until the
first full week in October when our pot luck group arrives. We are looking
forward to that. You can be sure that between now and then there won't be many
dull moments.
Love, Mom and Dad
